Nonfiction Genre Projects

Nonfiction is the writing of actual happenings, true events, and real people.
Dr. Joyce Armstrong Carroll, Acts of
Teaching

Essays, journals, diaries, memoirs , scientific papers, biographies, autobiographies,

cookbooks, textbooks, travel books, informational texts, and some journalism are all
common examples of non-fiction works.
1. Choose a nonfiction text. If youre unsure of whether your choice qualifies as
nonfiction, ask
Mrs. Vick.
2. Choose one of the projects below. Please note the type of nonfiction associated
with each project before you make your final selection. Each project is worth a
total 50 points. Your Friday reading points will determine the other 50 points. The
total points (a possible 100) will count as a test grade.
3. You MUST turn your rubric in with your project, or points will be deducted
from the final grade.

How to Cite Information:

*Citing Part of a Work: In parentheses, give the authors last name, leave a space,
then give the page number. Do not use the work page, pages or use p or pgs.
EXAMPLE: (Mortimer 156)
*If your source uses explicit paragraph numbers rather than page numbers,
like some electronic publications do:
In parentheses, give the authors name, a comma, then par. or pars. EXAMPLE: (Chan,
par. 41)

*When a source has no page numbers or any kind of reference numberswhether a print source; a non-print source such as a film, television broadcast, a
performance, or a Web publication, it is often preferable to include in the text, rather
than in a parenthetical reference, the name of the person (author, editor, director,
performer).
