Engineering Summary
This document is intended for an engineer with a requirement to modify the customizable
options of this component, as well as engineers and other supporting staff with a need to
understand account specific changes made to the component.
The component options, descriptions and values listed in this document consist of any
and all options that have been modified by the Core PC SOE Development Solutions
team. Also listed are many other vendor default values which a customer may have a
requirement to modify. This is not meant to be a complete listing of ALL modifiable
options within the component but rather a compendium of often-modified options.
Service Centre Engineers with a requirement to modify an option not listed should add
that option and provide feedback to the Core PC SOE Development Solutions team for
inclusion in future releases.

Component Requirements
Please refer to the Component Engineering document of this component for hardware,
software and OS requirements, installation and operational dependencies.

Risks and Mitigations

Security issue are covered by the component settings and patches detailed in this
document
With the abundance of viruses, worms and various exploits that are introduced almost
daily, there is no one single threat that can be accurately identified. Although Microsoft
has done a large amount of work with the Microsoft Office 365 to mitigate these risks,
this should be considered as an on-going effort.

Configuration
Installation Options and Application Settings
The following section identifies the options configurable for this component. All
configurations that deviate from the vendor provided installation must be
included, unmodified options blank where appropriate. Each option should contain
the following information:
Intro table:
Option name This should include the name of the option
Option Type This should contain one of the following values:

Optional Setting to be determined by Service Center Development

Teams
Recommended Setting is recommended by CSC
Standard Setting selected by the Core PC SOE Development
Solutions Team is considered a CSC standard and should not be
modified unless absolutely required. (Service Center teams should
provide feedback to the SOE development team should they have a
customer requirement to change these option types)
Vendor Default Should contain the default setting as received by media from the
Vendor.
SOE Default Should contain the setting selected for the Core PC SOE offering. The
SOE default is mentioned below, if it differs from the Vendor default. When it does
differ, it is mentioned in Blue to highlight the change.
Customer Selection Should contain the setting chosen by the customer if different
from the above.
Description:
This is a detailed description of the option and its potential values. If the Core PC
SOE selection differs from the vendor default, justification should be provided for this
difference as well as any foreseen impact to its modification. The SOE Default
column is left blank where values are unchanged from the vendor default.

Office 365 Configuration

Office 365 uses Click-to-run technology for deployment. Click-to-run packages cannot be
modified using Office Customization Tool.
Office 365 is deployed using Office Deployment Tool and an associated configuration
XML file is used to configure the installation behavior and update/activation settings.
Refer to the associated Component Design Document for all the available settings in the
configuration XML file.
Office 365 can be configured and managed, post installation, using Group Policies.
Office 365 supports the same group policies as Office 2013. Refer to Appendix A and use
the ADMX template to configure Office 365.

Best Practice Recommendations

Core PC SOE strongly recommends configuring the following configurable items as
described below. Some of these settings will vary according to the accounts deployment
environment and thus will have to be configured by the account engineers. The
recommendations are:

Update Enabled: This option must be set to TRUE. Accounts are strongly
recommended to enable auto update so that the user is always using the latest

version of Office 365 ProPlus application. Users must receive critical security
updates as soon as they are released and verified.
Full description of the setting is available here.
UpdatePath: The update path has been set as Microsoft CDN, in the SOE default
package. The accounts must configure the update path to an internal network
location. The accounts are strongly recommended to use an internal network
location as the source for tested and verified updated binaries for Office 365.
Full description of the setting is available here.
ShareComputerLicensing: This property must be Enabled when deploying
Office 365 in a VDI environment. This property allows Office 365 to be deployed
on a machine and remain deactivated. When a user logs on to the machine, Office
365 is activated using the users credentials and remain activated only until the
user is logged in. This allows different users to use the same instance of Office
365 using their own credentials.
Full description of the setting is available here.

Configuration XML file

Office Deployment tool uses the configuration XML file to configure Office 365
Deployment and installation behavior. Configuration XML file is present in the same
folder as Setup.exe. Following command line is used to install Office 365:
Setup.exe /configure configuration.xml
