RESEARCH PROPOSAL

DENGUE FEVER

Title of Research :
Dengue Fever
Background of Study
The weather in our country that receive direct sunlight and rain throughout the year to
create conditions ideal for breeding 'vector' or dengue fever virus carriers such as Aedes
Egypt. Dengue fever is an infectious disease that continues to haunt the lives of Malaysians
and our country is among that are in the top in the number of dengue cases in the world.
Some journal associated with dengue fever cases have been studied in detail. First reviewed
journal present a comprehensive picture of the dengue fever outbreak in 2012 and to identify
the prevailing serotypes using methods and materials of Serum samples were collected from
suspected dengue fever cases. Samples from fever cases <5 days duration were tested for
dengue NS1 antigen employing Pan Bio (Australia) NS1 ELISA kit. Serum samples of 5
days were tested for dengue fever-specific ELISA test kit IgM by MAC prepared by
Thenational of Virology Institute in Pune, India. Serotyping of dengue samples was done by

(RT-PCR)(

Comprehensive Study on the 2012 Dengue Fever Outbreak in Kolkata, India). The
second journal discusses the direct effects of the virus in terms of immunopathological aspects
that are also involved in the development of dengue symptoms. In addition, studies were
made with more about the antidote to this virus. Although no licensed dengue vaccine is yet
available several vaccine candidates are under development including live attenuated virus
vaccines, live chimeric virus vaccines, inactivated virus vaccines and live recombinant DNA
and subunit vaccines. The live attenuated virus vaccines and live chimeric virus vaccines are
undergoing clinical evaluation. The other vaccine candidates have been evaluated in
preclinical animal models or are being prepared for clinical trials(Current Progress In
Dengue Vaccines Journal) and Journal last made aiming reviews the changing epidemiology
of the disease, focusing on host and societal factors and drawing on national and regional
journals as well as international publications. It does not include vaccine and vector issues.
This virus is the main cause of child mortality in some countries in Asia and South America.
The researchers have selected areas where the literature raises challenges to prevailing views
and those that are key for improved service delivery in poor countries(Dengue Fever: New
Paradigms For A Changing Epidemiology). This journal related to our journal because they

in our country.
Introduction
The weather in our country that receive direct sunlight and rain throughout the year to create
conditions ideal for breeding 'vector' or dengue fever virus carriers such as Aedes Egypt.
Dengue fever is an infectious disease that continues to haunt the lives of Malaysians. Year
after year, the number of dengue cases is increasing despite numerous awareness campaigns
carried out throughout the country. Malaysia is among the countries that are in the top in the
number of dengue cases in the world. This is not an achievement to be proud of. Last year, a
total of 41.226 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed and 88 of those cases have been
fatal. This number signifies Drive of 92% of dengue cases compared to 2012 and an increase
of 151% of cases of dengue fever were fatal.
World Health Organization (WHO) estimates over 40% of the global population are at risk
from dengue and 50 to 100 million cases are reported yearly. The disease is seen spreading
from tropical countries to countries like Portugal, France and Croatia. In Malaysia, dengue
fever cases are on the rise from 6,000 cases in 1995 to over 40,000 in 2010, and this number
is rising (Dr. Khoo Yoong Khean is the Managing Editor of the Malaysian Medical Gazette).

Problem Statement :
Dirty area cause dengue fever at Kampung Parit Haji Sameon.
According to the Chairman of the Health and Environment Datuk Ayub Rahmat, Johor
reported an increase in dengue cases is significant, with 513 cases reported for the first week
of the year include eight localities where a new outbreak was reported by six in Johor Baharu
while each of the areas in Kulai and Batu Pahat. He added that Aedes possible to place a
damp, although the eggs were dry but if exposed to water when it rains or there is water, it can
grow back. (AFP, January 13, 2016). Given the following information, we chose this village
as a place to study because their surrounding area have higher potential for mosquito
breeding. The village has a trench along the route and in some places, the trench was filled
with a lot of rubbish. In addition, the area of cultivation of oil palm trees which many also
contribute to mosquito breeding.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL
DENGUE FEVER

Objective :
1. To determine the level of awareness of dengue fever at Kampung Parit Haji
Sameon.
2. To determine the factor of dengue fever at research area.

Significance of the study

This study is very important for the residents of kg. Parit hj sameon either
working, not working or students who maybe exposed to the beids of mosquitoes
and cause an increse in symptoms of dengue fever. This study also to identifying
understanding and awareness of the population againt the threat of mosquitoes
that carry the dengue fever to the local residents.
Limitation of the study
In order to accomplish our task, taking data out of the questionaire has been
limited to 30 residents only. However, analysis of the data we get from the people
who we choose not representative for all ages them. For example the population
aged 14 and 20 years do not represent the ages of 12-20 years.

Methodology

Parit Haji Sameon is a village in Batu Pahat District, Johor, Malaysia. The main
population of this town has been Javanese. In recent years, the town has seen substantial
growth due to the rapid expansion of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), located
near from Parit Haji Sameon. Today, here boasts a student population exceeding 17,000
multidiscipinary undergraduates, postgraduates and research students, excluding academic
and support staffs. Along the way to Parit Raja, you will pass by many villages and most of
them is name after a "Parit", due to the relatively flat terrain and abundant waterways.
The majority population is Malay population. Nations of China and India is very a few
stay in this area. The approxiamate population is about 5% only. The Malays here are mostly
working either working government or working in the private sector. They mostly live with
their families and some stay for single. There are also many students from UTHM living by
renting a house in the village. On the average Kampung Parit Haji Sameon have an average
population of 500-700 people only. This study was done only to some of the villagers who
were randomly selected from among them.
Weather forecast on Kampung Parit Haji Sameon, updated four times a day and shows
the weather summary detailed, there is rain, sun, wind and cool/hottemperature. The weather
forecast showing information for morning, afternoon and overnight. The research study
employs one source data from questionare. Questionare will be given to a total of 30 villagers

who were randomly selected to answer 9 questions about aedes mosquitoes in the vicinity of
their homes.

Analysis
after completion of the assignment of the questionnaire, we analyzed
data for the questions that have been given. We have obtained a total
population of 22 men and 8 women population. Most men who met while
hanging around with friends for afternoon tea and some are also on the
way to play. For ages, the number 2 represents the population 12-20
years old who are students of the primary school nearby, has 10
members representing a majority of 21-30 year students UTHM, 8
people 31-40 years represent a permanent resident of the village just
returned from work, while 10 people representative of the population of
41 years and above who work partly as a seller mee curry and cendol.
for part B which the understanding of the villagers, all the people which
is 30 villagers agree with question 1, that is the dengue fever is
dangerous to human, question 3 that is there are many types of
mosquitoes but only Aedes mosquitoes have black and white strips on
their legs and bodies and question 4 that is Aedes mosquitoes breed in
clean water and stagnanat. We concluded that these populations of all
ages have extensive knowledge about mosquitoes and have a
heightened awareness of the dangers of the mosquito.
