The goal of the PPIT program is to prepare senior doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows for an academic setting by
introducing them to the three main aspects of academia: research, teaching, and university administration. Admission
to the program was based on evidence of success in research as well as passion for teaching. PPIT has three main
components: (i) a graduate course on engineering teaching and learning, (ii) core seminars, and (iii) elective seminars
on teaching and learning.
The AUTP certificate is a two-year program designed to help graduate students prepare for a career involving university
teaching. The program provides graduate students with the opportunity to expand their understanding of the pedagogy
of teaching through a set of ten workshops, a practicum component with feedback from peer reviewers, and preparation
of a teaching dossier.
Fall 2009
This course is a core component of the PPIT program. MIE3002 discusses basic concepts in pedagogy, including
instructional design, methods of assessment, different teaching and learning styles, and developing learning objectives.
The course also introduces the participants to developing a teaching portfolio for a university course.

2013Present
As the Secretary of the CIGRE WG C4.34, under the direction of the WG convenor, I have organized eight meetings
and have coordinated the efforts on developing a Technical Brochure on the application of the dynamic phasors for
power system dynamic performance. The developed models can be used for renewable-rich power systems which
inevitably will have an abundance of power electronics devices.
2013Present
I was elected as the PES Chapter chair in 2013 and was reelected for a second term. I reactivated the Chapter and now
hold several meetings per yearsome coordinated with ESIC for a larger audience.
2013Present
I initiated and continue to organize, present at, and invite speakers for the Seminar Series on Academic Job Search.
The Series is designed to help increase the placement of our graduates in academic positions by introducing them to
the mechanics of the job search process. The series consists of four one-hour talks that share the perspective of different
stakeholders in the process. The primary target audience are third-year and later PhD students as well as postdoctoral
fellows in the College of Engineering and Architecture. The Series is sponsored by the Energy Systems Innovation
Center, Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, and School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
