Dear Farnsworth Families,

Our Extended Day Learning (EDL) program is off to a great start! Each year we welcome
about 150 students to the EDL program from October-May. This year we have added
some exciting programs to EDL. Six students in 1st 3rd grade are participating in our
Junior Lego League, which is led by a parent and community volunteer. They have
picked a team name of The Cupcakes! For the first time at the PreK-4 Campus, we also
added a Lego League team of 12 fourth graders, led by Ms. Ross our Kindergarten
teaching assistant. Both teams are off to a successful start and we are thrilled to be
developing a strong foundation for the strong (better word choice?!) Lego League team at
the 5-8 Campus. Additionally, we are continuing instrumental music for our 4th grade
students. Mr. Carlson has undertaken this responsibility and we are looking forward to
having an end of the year EDL Band Concert! Mr. Heinemann will also be continuing the
tradition of Chess Club each Thursday, where 3rd and 4th grade students have the
opportunity to learn and practice chess strategies, and participate in tournaments. When
students are not engaged in one of our enrichment opportunities, our EDL teachers come
up with new and exciting ways to teach the math and reading topics that students need to
practice. We are looking forward to a fun, successful and academically fulfilling year in
EDL. If your student is currently enrolled in EDL, I hope you are finding it to be a
worthwhile experience for your student! If you have any feedback, questions or
suggestions about how to make the EDL program more beneficial for our students, please
dont hesitate to contact me! Additionally, check out our website to get further
information about the EDL program!
