Changes for Version 6.8.3

1.

New Optimized outdoor unit selection

Now users can select an outdoor unit from a list of candidates. Not like the
previous version that an outdoor unit was selected automatically,
this function visualizes the outdoor unit selection and allows users to
select it manually.

2.

The following functions have become optional.

-Selecting outdoor unit based on operational load
-Limiting maximum connection ratio
-Selecting indoor unit manually
These functions are disabled as default and need to be enabled
in the Preferences menu.

3.

Improvements on the Report.

In the previous version of Xpress, items circled in red were
shown as Actual TC/SC/HC.
In new version 6.8.3, Actual has been replaced to Max since
these values indicate the maximum capacity that the indoor units can
potentially deliver under a certain design condition, and doesnt
mean that the indoor units always perform these capacity (= not
Actual).

1. Introduction
1-1. Purpose of VRVXpress
VRVXpress is a selection software of VRV.
VRVXpress helps your quick selection for quotation with easy operation.

1-2. Limitations on Selection

VRVXpress has some limitations on selection.
1)

VRVXpress doesnt accept the design temperature outside the scope of

the capacity table range. Please be sure that the design temperature is
within the capacity table range, not the operation range, listed in the
Engineering Databook.

2)

The order of indoor units on the [piping] tab and the [wiring] tab is linked.
Thus, if the actual piping layout is different from the field wiring, you
cannot place the indoor units so as to fit both of them. In other words, if
you place the indoor units to fit the actual piping layout, the wiring
diagram will not correspond to the field diagram, and vice versa.

3)

The indication of Has group address in the indoor unit selection window
is not linked with the wiring tab.If you define the indoor unit not to have
a group address, you will have to manually remove the connected
remote controller and reconnect to the master remote controller. The
group address is only used for calculating the number of groups that can
be connected to centralized controllers.

4)

Some options, (e.g wiring adaptors) are not displayed in the [Wiring] tab.

2. Items Required for Selection

4-4. Live Update

Software programs available on the DIL server are equipped with a Live Update feature.
Thanks to this feature, the end user can decide any time to check if a new version of
the software is available, and if so, to download and install it.
The live update feature results in a more efficient software distribution.
It contributes to our effort to assure that the latest software releases are used in the
field.
Live Update Procedure:
From within the software, through the welcome screen (first screen you see when
starting the program), or through the about... menu, you can check for more recent
versions that are available.
Looking for an upgrade when
starting Xpress.
When starting Xpress, the pop-up
window will always appear.
Click button(1) to look for an upgrade.
If you want to skip the process, just
click the [OK]button.
If you dont need to show the window
every time, uncheck (2).

(1)

(2)

Select your country and language.

Available upgrades will be listed.
Select the best matching version
and click on the [Download
Selected Version] button.

If there are no upgrades,

the following message appears.

11

After downloading
-When you were about to start up Xpress, it will automatically restart the program with
the new version.

-When you had already started up Xpress, the new version will start up after you
close the program.

If there is an active project when you wish to download a new version, a caution message
will appear to let you save the project first.
Open the project again after the program automatically restarts with the new version.

Looking for an upgrade after starting Xpress

When you click on [About],the [About ]
window will open, and there you will find
the [Upgrade] button.
Then the window to look for upgrades
will appear.(See page 11) The following
procedures are the same.

Note:
Live Update checks on the following parameters:
-Software program (e.g. VRV Xpress,VRVWXpress) (*)
-Software version
-Central database version (model database used by the software)
-Language (**)
-Specific filter configuration (e.g. VRV Xpress program only containing 60Hz region modules. (***)

(*) Important remark: Never change the executable filename (.exe) of the
software program.
If you rename the executable, the live update feature will not work anymore!
(**) If the English release has a higher version number than the local language version (e.g. Spanish),
then Live Update will propose to upgrade to the English version.
However, once upgraded to the English version, the live update function will no longer check for updates
on the local language version.
(In case you want to revert to your local language version, go to the software download page to get it)
(***) If a specific filter configuration is no longer supported by DIL, live update will propose to upgrade to
the generic release of the software (version with filter configuration)
In case you need another filter configuration, go to the software download page to get it.

5)
impact it might have on your selection,
especially when enabling more than
two features simultaneously.

1) Optimized outdoor unit selection

When enabled, you can select an outdoor unit from the list of candidates.
Users can set the upper and lower limit to define the range of outdoor units shown in it.
The list will show candidates which can deliver capacity within the minimum and
maximum percentage of the required cooling and/or heating capacity.

Range:70 130%

Unit with
Unit with

: the smallest outdoor unit that satisfies both the required cooling
and heating capacity.
: outdoor unit selected on the safe side, meaning that there is
sufficient cooling and/or heating capacity than required capacity.
: outdoor unit that has less cooling and/or heating capacity than
required capacity.

15

2) Select outdoor unit based on operational load

When enabled, you can enter the operational load as an absolute value or as a
percentage of the system peak load.

3) Limit connection ratio

When enabled, you can reduce the maximum allowed connection ratio.

16

4) Enable manual indoor unit selection

When enabled, you can select one or more indoor units manually.
When using manual selection, an outdoor unit will be selected based on the
maximum capacity that an indoor unit can deliver at the design condition; the
required capacity for outdoor unit will be equal to the sum of maximum
capacity of indoor units. To enter the required capacities as extra information
when manually selecting indoor units, check the [Enable possibility to enter
required cooling and heating capacities] check box.
(See Chapter 5. Indoor Unit Selection and 5-2-2. Manual Selection for details.)

17

5) Indoor unit discharge air temperature calculation

When enabled, the discharge air temperature of indoor units are shown.

Additionally, you can also show the discharge air temperature in the report.
Note:
This discharged air temperature is just a calculation result under design
condition and doesnt mean the actual temperature will be the same. Please
fully understand the meaning of the value when you show it on the report.

By moving the bar, you can set the tolerance/safety factor.

-Tolerance is the percentage that the available capacity of an
indoor unit is allowed to differ from the required capacity.

-The safety factor allows you to oversize your selection.

By default all indoor units receive a group address.

18

[Reports] Tab Page

You can select whether to include the
following items in your report:
- required capacity
- COP and EER
- Indoor unit discharge air temperature
Also, you can choose where the

5-10. Tolerance and Safety factor

After selecting the system without using tolerance or safety factor, its possible to
select a smaller indoor unit by using tolerance or a larger indoor unit by using the
safety factor.

5-10-1.What is tolerance?
Its the percentage that the Rq TC of an indoor unit is allowed to be reduced from its
original value.
Users must be well aware that using tolerance will not cover the original required load
and might not lead to an optimum air-conditioned space.
Generally, 3% or more of tolerance may lead to a one size smaller indoor unit.

A one size smaller

indoor unit
becomes available.
*Tolerance will only be applied when a smaller indoor unit can be found.
*After applying tolerance, Rq TC will become 5.7 x (1-0.04)=5.5kW.

33

5-10-2.What is safety factor?

Indoor unit safety factor
You can use this function when you want to consider extra capacity in case of future
increasing appliances.Generally, 10-15% or more of safety factor may lead to a one
size larger indoor unit.

After applying safety factor, Rq TC will become 5.1 x(1+0.1)=5.61kW.

Thus, a one size larger indoor unit is selected.

7-4. Printing Large Piping Diagrams

When the piping diagram is printed in the report, it is always printed shrink to fit
page. For VRV systems with many indoor units, this results in a report where
the names of the units are no longer readable. Therefore, it is possible to cut the
diagram into several parts and label each part. Each part is then printed on
another page in the report, with its label in the sub diagram title.
Example of reports

The cuts need to be defined in the [Piping] tab. You

can define a cut by clicking on the intermediate pipe
part where you want to cut the diagram. Then right
click and select Enter Sub diagram label.
The screen Enter Subdiagram Label appears,
which allows to enter a label for the subdiagram.
Suppose we enter A.

65

After entering the label, click

OK. The label A appears on
the intermediate pipe that will
be cut.
Enter the other cuts in the
same way. It is advisable to
create the .rtf-output to see the
result. If you are satisfied with
the result, save your project.
The labels are stored within
the project.

In order to print the complete

piping diagram again in the
report, all the labels need to be
removed.

To remove a label, click on the

intermediate pipe labeled.
Right click and select Enter
Subdiagram Label. The Enter
Subdiagram Label screen
appears, with the label you
have entered. Delete the label
and click OK. The label is
now removed. Repeat this
procedure for each label that
was defined. Afterwards, save
your project to remove the
labels permanently.

Adding several systems with a varying number of indoor units. The whole site will be
managed by an Intelligent Touch Controller, whilst some part of the building is controlled
by one Unified ON/OFF and other parts of the building/site by other Unified ON/OFF in a
so-called Control Group.

Step 1

Drag the outdoor units (one by one) to the Control Groups zone

The total number of outdoor units (8) and indoor units (170) in the control group is indicated

Step 2

Drag the controller

71

Drag and drop the controller

to the specific controller
zone.
Note that 12 Unified
ON/OFF will be required.
It is also possible to select a
global controller.
To control the 170 indoor
units
12 Unified ON/OFF and
two ITC and two DIII Net
Plus Adaptor will be
required.

9-3. The Control Wiring-tab

Access to wiring by clicking Control Wiring or To wiring .

Number of indoor
units connected to
each outdoor unit

Notice that the logic numbering of the outdoor units is changed

The program will look for the best / most economical way to connect
a maximum of 16 indoor unit groups to one Unified ON/OFF.
In this example, the outdoor units 1,6,4,7 and 8 are connected to the first four Unified ON/OFF.
The sum of the indoor units is 64, which the four Unified can take care of.
The rest of the outdoor units are connected the same way.
The whole site is also managed by one Intelligent Touch Controller. (global controller)

72

9-4. Adding a split and Moving units in the central control group
The selection software will automatically add units
to a centralized controller.
To do so, it is very likely that the combinations will
not correspond to the physical location of the
outdoor units.
Consequently the F1/F2 OUT cabling will need to
be routed according to the sequence decided by the
program.
This is not always possible or is not always
convenient
Thereto, a split can be made or units can be moved.

1) Select the unit above which you want to add the split in the system.
2) Click on Add Split

73

split

Using this possibility, we refuse the optimum result proposed by the software
This results into the need for one more Unified ON/OFF.

You can move a unit to above the split

or to below the Split by selecting the unit
and then use the arrow buttons.

To remove the split:

Select the split by
clicking on it and
then Remove Split

However, only 300 of them can be
used due to LON bus restrictions
(to guarantee data transmission)!
More SNVTs* = Less indoors

Default setting: 7 SNVT /

9-6. Edit control group name

Click to change the name
of the control group.

75

9-7. F1F2 communication

In the Advanced tab of the Preferences menu,
the default setting is that all indoor units receive
a group address. The number of group addresses
is used to check if its within the limitation of
controllers.
Even if you would decide that indoor units work
as master/slave on one remote controller, every
indoor should still get its group address.
If you would deselect this item, the following indoor
listing would be seen. If you select a single unit
from that list, you can individually edit it (double
click) to make the group address choice.

Remove
controller from
the slave indoor
unit.

Connect to the
master indoor
unit.
Edit indoor unit and allow
to deselect the group
address setting.
Defining master/slave
must be done in the wiring
tab.
