consumer's and picture on the right side( bone and bottle of milk) will be the
consumer proper consumer's food.
the students are expected to identify the proper food for the puppies
which is the bone and baby which is the milk.

Teacher's activities
Responses

Students

Do you agree that the milk is good

for the baby?

Yes

Very good , do you agree that the

milk is good for the puppies?
Very good, do you agree that bones
good for the dogs?

Yes

Since the milk is good for the baby

because baby cannot and the
puppies, do you think bones get the
proper nutrition also for the baby? by
eating bones is good for puppies not
for baby.

No

Precisely, bones doesn't fit to the

needs of the baby, do you agree?

Yes

Yes

Therefore there is always an

appropriate food for every creature,
baby drinks milk puppy eat the bone
for them to grow healthy.

B. Establishing a Purpose
like the need of the baby and the puppies of proper food, language
particularly the subject and verb must agree with one another. this is for the
purpose of clear and better communication. today we will be discussing
about subject- verb agreement and we will be learning some of the rules to
make our verb agree with our subjects.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

the subject and verb must agree in number, both must be singular, or both
must be plural
notice the difference between singular and plural forms in the following
examples.
before we go on let me ask u first
what is subject class?
the action

subject is the doer of

very good, and what is verb?

action

verb is describe the

very good, thank you my dear!

now take a look the example below.

singular
plural

the baby drinks the milk

the babies drink the milk

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing skills (1)

Teacher's activities
in order to find out if our subject and verb agree,
is a need to identify the subject of our sentence.
in sample ( 1) the subject is singular therefore our
verb is?
very good, in sample ( 2) the subject is plural
therefore our verb is?
very good,
notice the difference in formation of subject from
singular to plural compared of the formation of verb
from singular to plural. when we transform our subject

Students

Singular
Plural

into plural we usually add s or es but in verb, adding

s makes the verb singular.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills (2)

so today we will be discussing some of the rules of the agreement
between the subject and verb.

1. if subject are joined by and, they are considered plural.

example: my sister and her children were swimming all
afternoon.
where is the subject class?

very good, where is the verb?

my sister
her
children
Were
swimmin
g

very good , so class always remember that if the subject

are joined by and, they are considered as?
very good.

Plural

2. nouns plural in form but singular in meaning such as, economics

,mathematics,
mumps, physics, news, tec. requires a singular verb.

example: mathematics is my favorite

subjects.
now take a look the example class
where is the subject and why the verb
is singular?

mathematics
because mathematics is always
singular

excellent!

3. Two singular subjects connected by or, either/or, or neither/nor

require singular verb.
example: My aunt or my uncle is arriving by
train today.
now class take a look the example
where is the subject and verb?
very good!

my aunt my uncle
is arriving.

F. Developing mastery leading to formative assessment

1. the trick is to know whether the subject is singular or plural.
2. the next trick is to know whether the verb is singular or plural.
now let us have a group work i will flash the examples on the screen, you
decide the best verb that complete in the sentence.
i. Mathematics (is, are) my favorite subjects.
ii. One of my sister ( is, are) going on a trip to France.
iii Neither Juan nor Carmen is available
iv. Mumps (is, are ) viral disease.
v. Either the man or his friends (knows, know) the answer.

G. Practical Applications/IFVL
In 1 Corinthians 1:10 says, I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what
you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly
united in mind and thought.
The teacher ask the students to form a group, and they will participate
as a group by doing puzzle.

H. Generalizations/Abstractions
So again class if the subject is singular the verb take singular, plural
subject take plural verb.
if subject are joined by or or nor the verb should agree with the closer
subject.
expressions stating amount of time, money, weight, volume are plural in
form but take a singular verb.

now is the topic clear to you class? is there any question or clarification
about the topic?
now who among you here, can give one rule with an example?
yes (name of a students)

Okay, that's good can you give an

Example?
Okay thank you. nice try my dear

I. Evaluating learning

rule number one ma'am, when a

compound
subject joined by and it requires plural
verb.
the students will answer.

So this time we will have an activity, i brought here some bond paper
and i already put here the verb that you are going to choose, choose only the
verb if it is agree with the subject.
1. The news (is, are) all about the feast of the Immaculate.

3. All of us (was, were) ready to leave at five oclock.
