PAFA Annual Student Exhibition


The Womens Board Preview Party on May 13, 2010 launched the 109th Annual Student Exhibition (ASE) at the Penn-
sylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), in the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building, 128 North Broad Street, Philadelphia. It
was presented by Bollinger Insurance. The festive event offered guests the first chance to view and purchase more than
1,000 paintings, sculpture, works on paper and installations created by PAFA students on the very cusp of their profes-
sional careers. The students retain the majority of the purchase price of works sold, and were present to discuss their
works of art.
Guests enjoyed wine, cocktails and hors deourves while looking and buying art. The Annual Student Exhibition, host-
ed by the Womens Board, features works by Bachelor of Fine Arts students, third- and fourth-year Certificate program
students and Master of Fine Art students, as well as award recipients. More than 160,000 in scholarship and travel fund-

Wayne Art Center presents its Plein Air Festival, 4th Annual
Exhibition. A National Juried Exhibition of Plein Air paint-
ings are on display at the Wayne Art Center, 413 Maplewood
Avenue, Wayne, through July 2, 2010. Plein Air artists are
well practiced in techniques that allow them to complete a
paining on site in under 3 hours. Each artist has developed
their own style and method, but what enables them to exe-
cute several paintings each day is the ability to work with
great speed and accuracy and to synthesize what they see
into an organized and simplified composition. By massing
forms and using carefully placed gestural strokes the feel
of a scene is accomplished in a visually poetic way.
Wayne Art Center presented its Plein Air Gala Preview and
Artist Reception May 22, 2010. Guests were able to meet 32
national plein air artists and juror William Scott Jennings,
and view their freshly painted Delaware Valley landscapes.
All works painted during the 5-day festival were for sale.
