This chapter describes the ZXR10 M6000-S hardware installation flow and installation
preparations.

Documentation Preparations
Installation personnel must prepare at least the following technical documents:

This procedure describes how to unpack wooden cases, cartons, and board boxes.

Prerequisite
A flathead screwdriver, a claw hammer, diagonal pliers, a paper knife, and antistatic gloves
(or an antistatic wrist strap) are available.
Steps
1. Check the total number of items in accordance with the Packing List, and verify that
the outer packing is intact.
2. Remove the wooden case.
a. Move the wooden case with a fork lift to the installation site.
b. Open all tongue pieces with a flathead screwdriver, remove the upper cover of the
case, and then remove the sideboards, see Figure 1-2.

Open the carton, and take out foam protectors and board boxes.

Chapter 3

Steps
1. In accordance with the engineering design documents, determine the installation
position of the chassis in the cabinet.
In general, for a standard cabinet, 1U equals the height of three installation holes, see
Figure 3-1. The chassis should be at least 1U (1U = 44.45 mm) above the cabinet
bottom.

Caution!
Use specified handles only. Do not attempt to lift the chassis with other handles of the
chassis.
Engineers should lift up or put down the chassis at the same time to balance the weight.

The protective grounding cable of the device cabinet to the power distribution cabinet
is installed.
Antistatic gloves, cross screwdriver, and screw and bolt assemblies are available.
Context
The protection ground cable is the grounding cable of the equipment, and it is a 35 mm2
cable in yellow-green. The installation apertures of both the cable terminals are 6 mm.

For the overview of a protective grounding cable, see Figure 3-6. For how to prepare a
protective grounding cable, refer to Appendix B Preparing Power Cables and Protective
Grounding Cables.

Steps
1. Wear antistatic gloves.
2. Use the cross screwdriver to remove the screw and bolt assembly at the grounding
point of the chassis.
3. Connect one end of the protective grounding cable to the grounding rod of the chassis,
and the other end to the grounding rod inside the cabinet, and use a screw and bolt
assembly to fasten the cable.
For an overview of the protective grounding cable connected to the M6000-18S
chassis, see Figure 3-7.

The DC power supply modules are unpacked and are in good condition.

Verify the type of power supply for the chassis. For the specific types, refer to 3.1.2
DC Power Supply Module and 3.1.3 AC Power Supply Module in the ZXR10
M6000-S Carrier-Class Router Hardware Description.
Context
The ZXR10 M6000-18S supports DC power supply and AC power supply. Based on the
power supply redundancy solution and the number of used power supply modules, DC
power supply is divided into N + 1 and N + N redundancy modes. AC power supply
implements the N + N redundancy mode. For DC power supply and AC power supply,
power supply modules are installed in power supply boxes, and then power supply boxes
are installed in the chassis. The installation procedure for a DC power supply box is similar
to that for an AC power supply box. This procedure describes how to install a DC power
supply module that implements the N + 1 redundancy mode.
Steps
1. Wear anti-static gloves.
2. Check the power supply type of the chassis. Verify that the power supply boxes and
power supply modules match the chassis.
3. Insert a power supply box into the slot. Grasp the handles of the box, and then push
the box until the front panel of the box is flush with the front of the chassis, see Figure
3-8. Ensure that the power supply box is connected to the backplane of the chassis
securely. Use a crosshead screwdriver to tighten the captive screws and fix the power
supply box into the chassis.

4. Repeat step 3 to install the other power supply boxes into the corresponding slots.
5. Install the power supply modules into the first three slots from left in the power switch
box , see Figure 3-9. Align each power supply module with the slot of the power switch
box, and then push the module into the slot until you hear a click, which indicates that
the power supply module is locked.

6. Install the power switch module into the right-most slot in the power switch box, see
Figure 3-9. Align the power switch module with the corresponding slot of the power
switch box, and then push the module into the slot. Use a crossover screwdriver to
secure the screws to fix the power switch module into the power switch box.
For an external view of the chassis after the power supply modules and power switch
modules are installed, see Figure 3-10.

7. Install the mesh guard in front of the power supply boxes, and use a crosshead
screwdriver to tighten the captive screws, see Figure 3-11.

Prerequisite
The fan modules are unpacked and are in good condition.
Context
The fan modules are installed in the back of the ZXR10 M6000-18S chassis. There are
12 fan modules in total.
Steps
1. Remove the cover of the slot for a fan module.
2. Insert the fan module into the slot vertically, grasp the handle of the fan module and
push the module until the front cover is flush with the back of the chassis, see Figure
3-12.

3. Push the fan module until you hear a click, which indicates that the fan module is
locked.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 to install all fan modules. For an overview of the fan modules
installed in the chassis, see Figure 3-13.

The air filters are unpacked and are in good condition.
Context
The ZXR10 M6000-18S chassis has two horizontally-installed air filters and one
vertically-installed air filter.

Steps
1. Grasp an air filter, and push it into the corresponding slot, see Figure 3-14.

2. Push the air filters into position until the panels of the air filters are align with the slot
frame.

Warning!
A matching blank filler panel must be installed in a slot where no board is installed. If a
board cannot be installed back to a slot within eight hours, a blank filler panel must be
installed. If not, heat dissipation is affected, noises are increased, and the device may not
operate properly.

1. Wear an antistatic wrist strap (or antistatic gloves), and insert the grounding end into
the ESD jack of the chassis.
2. Loosen captive screws, and remove the blank filler panel.
Caution!
After the blank filler panel is removed, install a board in the slot immediately to prevent
any foreign matter from dropping into the chassis.

Ensure that the extractors of the board are completely open. Stop pushing the board
when the board is connected to the chassis.
Caution!
Do not touch the internal components of the board when you are installing the board
to prevent electronic components from being damaged.
Being different from the boards at the upper layer, the boards in the lower layer must
be installed in an opposite direction, see Figure 3-15.
5. Close the extractors. Ensure that the board is connected to the backplane of the
chassis securely, see Figure 3-16.

6. Tighten the captive screws by turning them clockwise to fasten the board, see Figure
3-17.

Caution!
After the blank filler panel is removed, install a board in the slot immediately to prevent
any foreign matter from dropping into the chassis.
a. Hold the lower part of the board horizontally with one hand and grasp the board
panel with the other hand. Then push the board smoothly along the rail in the
chassis slot.
Ensure that the extractors of the board are completely open. Stop pushing the
board when the board is connected to the chassis.

Caution!
Do not touch the internal components of the board when you are installing the
board to prevent electronic components from being damaged.
b. Close the extractors. Ensure that the board is connected to the backplane of the
chassis securely.
c.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the captive screws on both sides of the board
clockwise.
Note:
When the full-height interface daughter card (PIU) is installed in the network processing
board, it is necessary to remove the central guide rail from the network processing board.
For more information, see Appendix E Removing Central Guide Rail of Network Processing
Board (PFU).

Note:

board, it is necessary to remove the central guide rail from the network processing board.

Steps
1. Wear an antistatic wrist strap (or antistatic gloves), and insert the grounding end into
the ESD jack of the chassis.
2. Get the board out from the anti-static package box.
3. Hold the bottom of the card with one hand, and grasp the card panel with the other
hand. Slowly insert the card into the slot along the guide rails. After the card is
connected to the mother board, tighten the captive screws to fasten the card, see
Figure 3-22.

Prerequisite

Context
The cable trays are the external components for routing network cables and optical fibers.
There are three cable trays for one ZXR10 M6000-18S chassis: one top cable tray, one
bottom cable tray, and one lateral cable tray.
Steps
1. Position a cable tray (top or bottom) at the proper location.
2. Align the screw holes.
3. Mount the screws (ten in total), see Figure 3-23.

To install DC power cables for the ZXR10 M6000-S, the DC power distribution box, if
not provided by ZTE, must satisfy the following basic requirements:
The discharge current capabilities of the power distribution box must satisfy the
requirements of ZXR10 M6000-S, including that the power of circuit breakers is
derated to satisfy the designed power consumption requirement.
The protective grounding cables of the DC power distribution box and ZXR10
M6000-S must be connected to a common ground properly.
If a ZTE DC power distribution box is used, it is recommended that the fusing current
in each input channel of the PDU of the DC power distribution box is not less than 100
A.

AC power supply
l
The protective grounding cables of the AC power distribution box and the ZXR10
M6000-S must be connected to a common ground properly.
Discharge current capabilities such as air circuit can satisfy the requirements of
ZXR10 M6000-S.
Prerequisite

The chassis grounding cable is installed and contacts the ground properly.
DC power cables are available.

The cables between the DC PDU and the power distribution cabinet in the equipment
room are disconnected. The switch for the power supply box at the bottom of the
chassis is OFF.
Context
Prepare DC power cables. For the details, refer to Preparing Power Cables and Protective
Grounding Cables. Figure 3-26 shows DC power cables.

The following procedure uses a power supply module installed in 8 + 8 mode (full
configuration) as an example to describe how to install DC power cables for the DC power
supply modules installed in N + N mode.
Steps
1. Perform the following steps to connect the power cables to the input and output
terminals of the PDU.
a. Use a marker pen to temporarily mark both ends of the DC power cable.
b. Connect the power cables to the input and output terminals of the PDU, see Figure
3-27.

a. Remove the mesh guard for the connectors of a DC power supply module.
b. Route the DC power cable to the input terminal of the DC power supply module
along the cable trays.

Connect the DC power cable to the input terminal of the DC power supply module.
3. Use straps to bind the DC power cables at intervals of 3.94 in. (100 mm) to 5.91 in.
(150 mm) to fasten the power cables on the cabinet cable trays and the wiring ladder
in the equipment room.
4. Paste labels at about 0.79 in. (20 mm) to both ends of the DC power cables.

Steps

Context
If AC power supply is used in the equipment room, AC power supply cabinets should be
used for power supply (recommended).
Figure 3-32 shows an AC power cable that is used between a PDU and an AC power
supply module.

The following procedure uses a power supply module installed in 8 + 8 mode (full
configuration) as an example to describe how to install AC power cables for the AC power
supply modules installed in N + N mode.
Steps
1. Perform the following steps to connect the power cables to the input and output
terminals of the PDU.
Connect the power cables to the input and output terminals of the PDU, see Figure
3-33.

subrack, so that the two plugs on the back of the rectifier are fully inserted into the
sockets on the backplane. Now the handle is aligned with the front panel of the

corresponding position on the subrack, see Figure 4-16.

board, it is necessary to remove the central guide rail from the network processing board.

3. Install the grounding cable of the PDU. Connect one end of the protective grounding
cable to the grounding rod of the PDU (there are two grounding rods on interior sides
of the PDU, and you only need to connect to one of them), and connect the other end
to the grounding point inside the cabinet (at top of the cabinet).
4. Check the input terminals with a multimeter to verify that there is no short circuit
between the -48 V and -48 V RTN terminals and between the -48 V and PGND
terminals.

The AC power cables are connected from the power supply cabinet in the equipment room
to the input terminals of the PDU, and then connected from the output terminals of the
PDU to the AC/DC converter. Power cables are then connected from the converter to the
DC power supply modules. After being converted from AC power to DC power, power is
supplied to the DC supply modules to power on the chassis.

Connect the power cable from the power distribution box to the DC power unit in the
cabinet, and then connect the power cable from the DC power unit to the input terminal
of the DC power supply module. In case of either single-channel or dual-channel
power supply, the ZXR10 M6000-S always obtains power supply from the DC power
distribution box.
To install DC power cables for the ZXR10 M6000-S, the DC power distribution box, if
not provided by ZTE, must satisfy the following basic requirements:
The discharge current capabilities of the power distribution box must satisfy the
requirements of ZXR10 M6000-S, including that the power of circuit breakers is
derated to satisfy the designed power consumption requirement.
The protective grounding cables of the DC power distribution box and ZXR10
M6000-S must be connected to a common ground properly.
If a ZTE DC power distribution box is used, it is recommended that the fusing current
in each input channel of the PDU of the DC power distribution box is not less than 100
A.

The protective grounding cables of the AC power distribution box and the ZXR10
M6000-S must be connected to a common ground properly.
Discharge current capabilities such as air circuit can satisfy the requirements of
ZXR10 M6000-S.

The cables between the DC power distribution box and the power distribution cabinet
in the equipment room are disconnected. The power supply module switch on the
bottom of the chassis is in the OFF position.
Context
The DC power cable is connected from the power distribution cabinet in the equipment
room to the input terminal of the PDU, and then connected from the output terminal of the
PDU to a DC power supply module of the ZXR10 M6000-5S chassis.
The PDU supports a maximum of dual 5 inputs and dual 8 outputs.
Steps
1. Use a marker pen to temporarily mark both ends of the DC power cable.
2. Connect the DC power cables from the input terminals to the output terminals of the
PDU, see Figure 5-31.

3. Install the grounding cable of the PDU. Connect one end of the protective grounding
cable to the grounding rod of the PDU (there are two grounding rods on interior sides
of the PDU, and you only need to connect to one of them), and connect the other end
to the grounding point inside the cabinet (at top of the cabinet).
4. Check the input terminals with a multimeter to verify that there is no short circuit
between the -48 V and -48 V RTN terminals and between the -48 V and PGND
terminals.
5. Unplug the DC power supply module from the chassis.
6. Connect the power cables to the input terminal of a DC power supply module.

The PDU supports a maximum of dual 5 inputs and dual 8 outputs.
Steps
1. Use a marker pen to temporarily mark both ends of the DC power cable.
2. Connect the DC power cables from the input terminals to the output terminals of the
PDU, see Figure 6-24.

3. Install the grounding cable of the PDU. Connect one end of the protective grounding
cable to the grounding rod of the PDU (there are two grounding rods on interior sides
of the PDU, and you only need to connect to one of them), and connect the other end
to the grounding point inside the cabinet (at top of the cabinet).
4. Check the input terminals with a multimeter to verify that there is no short circuit
between the -48 V and -48 V RTN terminals and between the -48 V and PGND
terminals.
5. Unplug the DC power supply module from the chassis.

Before installation, signal cables must pass the continuity test. Both sides of each
signal cable should be marked or labeled correctly.
Signal cables must be free of damage, breakage, and joint.
Do not route signal cables on ventilation holes because this will negatively affect heat
dissipation and cable durability.
Signal cables must be routed at least 11.82 in. (300 mm) away from power cables.
Cabling in the cabinet must not affect door installation.
Cables must be routed along the horizontal and vertical cable trays in a flat and straight
manner, without crossovers or folds.

Each protective tube can hold multiple optical fibers, but the recommended upper limit
is 12. Before placing optical fibers into a protective tube, bind the optical fibers with a
nylon sticky strip, and protect the optical connectors from damage.
5. In accordance with the route designed in the construction drawing, connect the optical
fibers from devices such as ODF to the ZXR10 M6000-S.
a. In accordance with the cabling method (upward or downward cabling), push the
optical fibers with protective tubes through the optical fiber inlet on top/bottom of
the cabinet into the inside of the cabinet. It is recommended that the protective
tubes be moved to 5 cm over/below the installation tray.
l For upward cabling, the installation tray refers to the installation tray of the
power distribution box.
l For downward cabling, the installation tray refers to the installation tray
nearest to the cabinet bottom.
b. Lead the optical fibers stripped out of the protective tubes to the cabling area on
one side of the cabinet, and then to the corresponding optical interfaces on the
device.
6. Connect the user end of each optical fiber to the corresponding optical interface on
the ODF.
7. Prepare labels for the optical fiber and paste them firmly at both ends of each fiber.
For how to prepare and paste a label, refer to Appendix D Preparing and Pasting
Labels.
8. Along the installation route of the optical fibers, use nylon sticky strips to bind the
optical fibers, and fix bundles of optical fibers in the cabling area.
9. Wind excessive optical fibers and bind them on the top or bottom of the cabinet so that
they cannot be reached easily.

Before checking hardware installation, ensure that the power distribution cabinet
connected to the cabinet is powered off, and the switches of the cabinet power distribution
box and the chassis power supply module are in OFF state.
Requirement
The cabinet position complies with the actual engineering design documents.
The expansion bolt fastening a cabinet or base to the ground is firm and all the screws
are fastened tightly.
The horizontal and vertical deviations of a cabinet are less than 0.12 in. (3 mm). The
front sides of the cabinets in the same row are on the same plane with a deviation of
less than 0.2 in. (5 mm).
The resistance of each insulated point between a bracket and a cabinet measured by the
M switch of a multimeter is greater than 5 M.
The accessories of the front and back doors of a cabinet are intact, and connecting plates
are installed between combined cabinets.
The front and back doors of a cabinet can be opened and closed smoothly.
Cabinets in the same column are aligned closely and neatly. Rows of cabinets along the
main aisle are aligned with a deviation of less than 5 mm.
Cabinets are clean. There are no excessive bands, threads, or other unrequired items
inside the cabinets. No damage or fingerprints are seen inside or outside the cabinets.
All the entrance and exit holes of a cabinet are sealed, such as cover plates and
mouse-proof bags.

The screws of all the devices are fastened, and the clasp of each board is in position.
The fan inlet and outlet for devices are not blocked.
Requirement
The position of a power supply device (such as a power distribution cabinet) complies with
the actual engineering design documents.
Power cables and protective grounding cables are connected reliably and contact properly,
and their polarity is correct.
Naked wires of connecting terminals and OT terminals are not exposed. They are bound
with insulated tape or covered by heat shrink tubes.
Labels are made and pasted on power cables and protective grounding cables. The labels
are pasted neatly and facing the same direction (including power distribution switch labels).
It is recommended that a label be pasted 0.79 in. (20 mm) to the corresponding connector.
External power cables and grounding cables of a cabinet are straight and bound separately
from other cables.
Excessive parts of a power cable or grounding cable are cut off, not being coiled.
The distance between an external power cable or grounding cable of a cabinet and a
signal cable is greater than 1.18 in. (30 mm).
Requirement
The two ends of a cable are connected correctly, and cable connectors are tightened.
Cables are installed along a horizontal or vertical cable tray, and bound in cable clip holes.
Signal cables are not routed over the heat dissipation holes of the cabinet.
Cables are straight and smooth. No cable crossing exists inside a cabinet, and cables
outside a cabinet are bound in bundles.
Cable clips do not overlap. Cable connectors are cut evenly without protruding parts.

Steps
1. Perform the following checks before power-on:
a. Verify that the power distribution cabinet connected to the ZXR10 M6000-S cabinet
is powered off, and the switches of the power distribution box and the power supply
module in the chassis are in the OFF position.
b. Verify that the board is installed in the chassis, and the board clasp is in position.
2. To supply power to a cabinet, perform the following steps:
a. Switch on the power supply to the cabinet or set the power control switch on the
power distribution cabinet to the "ON" position.

1. Peel the cable jacket (shield) of the twisted pair wires, and cut off the nylon rip cords
within the cable jacket. The peeled length is 16 mm, see Figure C-3.

When peeling the cable jacket, do not scratch the insulating layer of the twisted pair
wires.
2. Place the peeled twisted pair wires in order, and use diagonal pliers to trim the end of
the wires neatly, see Figure C-4.

Setting the switch of the tester to the "S" position can reduce the flashing rate of
