AP Psychology
Unit One Project: Research Proposal
Section 1: Description Research Study Design
1-1. Im proposing to research how does stress affect ones work and lifestyle? Does a little or a
lot of stress help or harm your work/life.
1-2. A humanistic point of view would be most suited/interested because it studies the whole
person, how ones ability to handle a certain amount of stress affect them as a person and the
work they produce.
1-3. The description method I will be using is naturalistic observation. I could observe a group of
highschool students work and assignments/everyday life, how well each assignment is done in
relation to the amount of stress they have from what grade to extracurriculars or how well they
cope with stress, do they even finish their work.
1-4. I will select/ask kids who have relatively good grades (3.5-4.0 gpa) and that are in the same
classes, for example AP psychology. The control group would be kids in psy who do not have ny
extracurriculars. The experimental would be kids who do participate in things like sports or
airships etc. As we get assignments over time I would look at the grades of the control group vrs
experimental to see if students can actually complete their work.
1-5. There are many different variables that can go into influencing the quality of a student's
work, but i can try to draw a conclusion from this study about whether the amount of stress and
translates to work done well or not at all.
1-6 I could generalize my findings only to high schoolers that experience the same amount of
stress.
Section 2: Correlational Research Study Design
1-2. Variables: -IV: Stress
-DV: Quality of work
I will be looking at i the two are related and how much they affect each other.
2-2. Stress- the pressure exerted by another thing causing blood pressure to rise. Stress Is
measured by pounds per square inch or in pascals
Quality of work- How well is the task complete, in this case how well do you get graded on it.
2-3. The survey will ask about the es subjects life, the type of stress their going through,(what
grade are they in, how much extracurricular activities they do, d they have job, if so how does it
affect their work. Whats their GP, what class do they stress most n that was the last rating o a
test.) to see correlation between the two.
2-4. The best way to interpret this data is through two things is through scatter plots for the
amount of hours spent on doing the work vrs the grade and table to visually see the information
about what type of stress their under.
2-5. A theory I can draw from this statistic is if the more work you have the more stress youre
under so which lead you to have better or worse quality of work.

2-6. For the IV, stress I will make a scale of pascal's from 1-10 based on the level of stress they
have and for the DV, Quality of work it will be graphed on NY, MS or ES.
Experimental Research Study Design
3-1. If the level of stress affects the quality of work, then it will students to do better on the work
because it will motivate them to do better.
3-2. IV: Stress, DV: Quality of work because the quality of your work is affected by your stress
and how you cope with it.
3-3. Stress- the pressure exerted by another thing causing blood pressure to rise. Stress Is
measured by pounds per square inch or in pascals
3-4. The control would be high schoolers that do n extracurricular activities because so extra
stress is exerted on them. The experimental would be group of student athletes that have less
time and more stress their hands. Each will get assigned thematic essay on the catcher ii the r
and a quiz on it to see how well each type of student can manage their time and stress. Out out
the students being studied the ones who take Spanish and will be asked to come in and will be
blindly tested in the content they're learning in Spanish. By taking the test the demanded
characterization is stress so we can see how well they end up doing. An apical bias that they will
end up having is that the experimental group will feel that they are not as prepared because
they don't have time to study other than class.
3-5. A statistical technique that is required for this experiment is inferential descriptive statistics
because the results of their grades can be a numerical data that can be calculated to have a
standard deviation.
3-6. A conclusion that I can make from my finding is whether stress is helpful or not to doing well
in school grades wise. I can generalize whether playing sports helps or harms your school work.
