On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, 23 little pupils were taught by me about seven different
shapes (a mathematical lesson). The lesson was general which means that students learned about
specific shapes names and shapes only. Students learned about the shapes of a circle, triangle,
rectangle, square, diamond, star, and a heart. The pupils were of Sama American Private School
which is located in the city of Sharjah, the UAE. A lesson plan was made and designed by me
before the day of Wednesday, November 2, 2016, and it was checked deeply and discussed fully
with Ms. Olga Hattab, my MST. The discussion with my MST was made on Tuesday, November
1, 2016, in the school and after the end of the school day, and it was continued later (after getting
back home) via WhatsApp. The discussion was made in order to make sure that the designed
plans were appropriate to be used with children of five years old. While teaching (from the
beginning of the class until its ending), my MST observed me. She helped me as well in
observing and helping the pupils while they were completing the differentiated activities.
Moreover, my lovely MST took pictures of me and the students during the time of the class
which made me much happier.
It was a wonderful, long moment with the students. The lesson was delivered to the little
students so awesomely and successfully. All students responded to me wonderfully and
participated in exploring, sharing, answering, asking, and completing activities. My lesson plan
was built depending on the usage of the 5E instructional model that includes five stages of
engage, explore, explain, extend (elaborate), and evaluate which enabled my lesson to be
interesting, learned easily, and delivered swimmingly. The 5E instructional model is considered
to be typically included in lessons parts because of its contributions in producing exciting
lessons (5Es Overview: The 5E instructional model, n.d.). To engage the students, I showed
them a very big box that had many things within it. The box was shacked, and students got an
opportunity to make a guess about the things that were within the box. Students could open and
explore the things with each other as a big group. They could know that the things presented
shapes. At the beginning, answers of the objects names were heard, but then the answers were
turned to state that objects presented shapes. I asked the question of that if the various objects
presented shapes, and all of them answered with the word of yes with mentioning what shapes
the things presented. It was a very interesting class to me, the students, and my MST. The Pupils
explained their answers of that objects presented shapes and what shapes they presented. They
said why they answered with the word of yes and why the stuff presented shapes. Students had
prior knowledge of some shapes such as a square, triangle, rectangle, and a circle, so they
mentioned the shapes features (the numbers of the sides that they had and the sides features).
Students knowledge was elaborated by a song that talked about the learned shapes and other
more shapes (this was an extra addition to the lesson plan). The knowledge of students was also
elaborated by allowing them to find other things within the classroom, their homes, and their
bodies that presented various shapes. To evaluate students understanding, three differentiated
activities were given to the little pupils to complete. All of the activities made a success and
showed how the pupils have understood and enjoyed the entire lesson. The three differentiated
activities enabled the students to practice and use their gained knowledge. They also led to

extending students knowledge where they had new pieces of information of shapes such as
knowing that there are shapes called cylinders, ovals, and hexagons. I saw and felt of how both
the MST and the 23 students were engaged and enjoyed. My MST said to me that every part of
the lesson was interesting and enjoyable. What made me much happier was that the students that
came to me and told me that I had interesting activities and that they liked the whole class. The
students came to tell me that they wanted to do or complete more activities because they loved
the ones that were given to them. I told them that they would do more in other following classes.
All the objectives of the whole lesson were achieved successfully where the students could
realize that shapes are fundamental and found in everything including our bodies, realize and
recognize that there are so many shapes in the world, and identify names of various shapes of a
circle, triangle, rectangle, square, diamond, star, and heart (remember that the students knew
about cylinders, ovals, and hexagons). Ms. Olga Hattab, gave me excellent in all the aspects of
planning for learning, managing learning, implementing learning, and assessment. If I teach the
lesson again, I will use the same lesson plan and materials because they allowed me to give a
remarkable and lovely lesson. No changes will be included in the lesson plan, but an extra
addition of a song of shapes will be included in the lesson plan. The one that I used during the
class was lovely, so it will be used. Shapes Song 2, this is the name of the used song of shapes
during the class. I did not face any dilemmas while giving the lesson to students which means
that nothing could make me disappointed or feel lost, and that I was happy and satisfied about
my entire lesson and class.
I have reflected about my teaching way and lesson in the above paragraph. The overall feeling
that I had about my teaching and lesson was totally satisfying.
