People credited with this unit standard are able to, for a
medium building: develop pre-contract construction
methodology, and develop post-contract construction
methodology.

Explanatory notes
1

Definitions
Construction methodology refers to the planned method of construction, taking into
account all contractual and legal requirements, construction constraints, risks, and
opportunities. Methodology includes the temporary and permanent works and the
services required to complete the construction works.
Medium buildings are light to medium weight commercial or industrial buildings up to
three levels above ground which utilise commercial or industrial materials,
construction techniques, and services.
Pre-contract refers to activities before a contract is let for construction of the works.
Post-contract refers to activities after a contract is let for the construction of the
works.
Sustainability means the ability to complete building works using a minimum of the
earths resources, and having minimal negative effect on the environment.

All activities must comply with any policies, procedures, and requirements of the
organisation/s involved; the ethical codes of relevant professional bodies; and any
relevant legislative and/or regulatory requirements.

Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes: Health and Safety in Employment
Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995;
Resource Management Act 1991.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can

NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
