Owner walks into kitchen which is covered in mud (or paint?) owner calls dog, doa jumps on owner causing papers from briefcase to fly and owner to become muddy. The owner angrily throws the dog outside and scolds it, dog is sad and dog in windowsill says if you showered Hamsters are racing around in tubes and o fat one causes a traffic jam behind him fat male hamster chases after 0 female and they get stuck in the tubes together Three hamsters (love triangle) the female tres to get past the fat hamster to get to the one she likes, but because the other hamster is bia. they get stuck together..the fat one thinks she likes him and she does not make it to the one she actually kes ~Two hamsters get stuffed into a hamsterball together by a child. the female dislikes the mole she is stuck with? Exercise wheel? ~Two hamsters need to be transported (to the vet!) and get shoved into a small pet corrier Hamster tries to impress female by racing the other males but he gets stuck in the pipes because he is big -Two ferrets get stuck/tangled in o hanging bed or o set of tunnels (similar to hamsters) or if they are in an outside enclosure they get stuck in a birdhouse or tree? Child dresses up two ferrets like dolls and makes them have some sort of tea party, child pretends they are like Ken and Barbie dolls, the fot. smelly male ferret thinks its real but he female hates it.Rejected Ideas continued... Ferrets are allowed to roam around house! Male one chases female one into household objects such as glass bottles, jars, cardboard tubes. watering can..get stuck in object together much to her dismay Similar ideos for chincills, they are high maintenance so being smellydirty is « bigger deal for them? Some sort of high school story? Animal bullies they big, smelly one into thinking the most attractive/popular one likes him but she really doesn't? Meerkat tells smelly meerkat that the pretty female likes him, he chases after her but gets ther both stuck in the tunnels together (too fat for the tunnels or cousas a cave in) Fat meerkat get stuck in the entrance to one of the chambers in their tunnels, getting him and a group of females stuck (he isthe outcast?) ~Squirel chases female squirel and they get stuck in a bird house/treellog/nest togetherChosen Idea: “In a pet shop. there are two enclosures for ferrets next to each other. One is clean, organized. and immaculate while the other is messy disorganized and dirty. The clean one belongs to an elegant female ferret who likes things to be tidy and spotless. The ether cage belongs to a slobby, lazy mole ferret who does not have a sense of hygiene. The male ferret has a crush on the female ferret, often putting his face up against the wal of his cage, staring at her. This repulses the female fereet, she chooses to ignore his existence. However. one day a young child bursts into the pet shop. He impulsively picks up the male ferret due to his clumsy appearance and his size. Initially the femole is relieved, but to her horror the boy then goes to grab her too despite it being ebvious the two animals are rot compatible. The female desperately tres to avoid the boy’s grasp but she becomes cornered and is seized. The child stuffs both of the animals ina tiny animal carrier. The mole ferret is eloted that he is now with her, despite her efforts to escape. She is disgusted by his presence but stops trying to escape once she realizes it's pointless, Perhaps this will give him the opportunity to eventuclly change her judgements about him. [felt this idea worked because the cages they are in can quickly describe their types of personality and how they are different ~ the females is neot, clean, and elegant but the male is messy. dirty and untidy. This is the main reason why she dislikes him, but he is is attracted to her because she is so pure. This could also establish more about their personalities ~ she takes care of herself but is snobby. On the other hand, he does not take care of himself but perhaps he is actually humble and kind. Some ideas | tried to force, which did not work. However. | feel now my current idea is working much better nd that I'm making progress. At first | was struggling making thumbnais, partially due to my lack of a solid idea and partially due to the techniques. | feel that | was focusing too much on details from the start when | needed to focus on bosic shapes ot first. Once | changed my tools | think that my drawings began to improve in terms of designing an interesting, stylized character. I limited myself to only using the lasso tool in Photoshop to create sihouettes initially and then | moved onto Using Illustrator to draw my thumbnails. | used both the brush and pen tools in llustrater then used the points to change and alter my drawings. It also limited the amount of shading | could do on my characters, but | believe that the aesthetic of my ferret and child thumbnails are turning out well My characters are obviously far from being completed designs, and I'm looking forward to developing them more. I like my female ferret thumbnoils and I prefer the male ferret vs, the mole guinea pig so far. However, | feel that the male ferret appears too cute and adding some details such as dirt patches or marks to signify bad smell will make him appear dirtier. For the child thumbnails, | feel ike alittle boy would fit the character more so than the girl simply because in my mind I can picture the gil only wanting the pretty female ferret while the boy would be more random in his selection of animols (although | know this is just assumptions bosed on gender and | could switch up stereotypes if| wanted). | plan on exploring all of my characters more as well as beginning to draw thumbnails for the pet shop, cages, and other props such as the pet carrier and the toys in the ferrets cages. Overall, | feel it took me a while to find my footing but | believe | am now making decent progress on my project.
