Front seat, removing and installing (vehicles


without side airbags)
WARNING!
Before working on the electrical system: remove battery
Ground (GND) strap.
Note:
Depending on the type of equipment installed in vehicle,
slight deviations must be taken into account when
removing and installing.
For seats with seat heating and side airbags, the battery
must be disconnected and the cable connections must be
disconnected before removing seat.
Before disconnecting battery, obtain radio anti theft code.
After connecting battery, check vehicle equipment (radio,
clock, electric window regulators) according to repair
manual and/or owners manual.

Removing
- Remove trim strip -1- from inner guide track toward rear.
- Remove wedge -2- on rear side of cap -3- using flat pliers
and remove cap from outer guide tracks.
- Adjust seat forward, press securing clamp -4- together
and remove.
- Slide seat rearward out of guide tracks.

Note:
Before disconnecting ignition and Ground (GND) wire, the
technician must be electrostatically discharged (touch closing
wedge for door or chassis briefly).
Connector -2- (at VAS5061 airbag adapter) is not required.
- Disconnect ignition and Ground (GND) wire from side
airbag.
- Connect connector -1- (at VAS5061 airbag adapter) in
connector housing -4-.
- Connect connector -3- (at VAS5061 airbag adapter) in
connector housing -5-.
- Disconnect harness connectors for seat heating and seat
adjustment if equipped.

Installing
Installation is reverse of removal.
- Check glide pieces -6- (left and right) and front glide piece
-5- for damage, replace if necessary.
- Lubricate glide pieces -6- (left and right) and front glide
piece (multi-purpose grease).
Note:
If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75indicates a malfunction following seat installation, use the
VAG1551 to erase DTC memory and check it again.

Removing
- Remove front seat

- Press off control knob -4-.


- Drive out expander pins -5- (left and right) toward inside.
- Front expander pin will be pressed against seat frame.
- Press expander pin downward from above using
screwdriver.
- Remove cover -6- from backrest frame.
- Remove Phillips-head screw -11-.
- Pull off retainers -7- (left and right).
- Pull backrest frame off mounting pin -13-.

Installing
- Check bushings -12- (left and right) for damage; replace if
necessary.
- Replace Phillips-head screw -11- (with thread locking
compound).
- Remove adhesive residue from nut threads with tap or
thread chaser.
- Coat threads of new screw with locking compound
AMV197 000 01.
