Fuse Failure Supervision (FUSE)

Many protection function operated on the basis of voltage available to the terminal. Due
to a fault in the secondary circuits, between that PT and terminal, these functions can
operate unnecessarily.
The Fuse Failure supervision function, FUSE, is a supervision function which prevents
such unwanted operations by using different measures. The function measures zero
sequence voltage and current. If the zero sequence voltage measured exceeds its set value
3U0> and the zero sequence current does not exceed its set value 3I0>, the FUSE
function operates.

FFR Function Block

The output of the Dead Line function, DLD-STPH is configured to the FUSE function
input FUSE-DLCND. This prevents the blocking of the impedance protection during
dead line detection. The 200ms delay-on-drop-off timer prolongs the DLD signal to
prevent the blocking of impedance protection during auto-reclosing or unequal pole
closing.
An NC contact from the miniature MCB is configured to the FUSE-MCB input through a
binary input of input module. This blocks both impedance and voltage dependant
functions.
An NC contact from line isolator is routed through binary input and is configured to
FUSE-DISC which blocks voltage dependant function.
An external contact or internally generated signal can be configured to block the FUSE
function operation.
The output FUSE-VTSU is used to block voltage-dependant functions like under voltage,
etc. and FUSE-VTSZ is used to block the impedance functions like zone 1, etc. Normally
either of the signals FUSE-VTSZ or VTF3PH is configured to block impedance
protections.

FFR Logic Diagram

When the internally generated fuse failure condition STZERO is enabled, FUSE-VTSU
goes high. If the fuse failure condition is detected for more than 5 secs and one of the
phase to earth voltages is low, then the signal STZERO is latched and can be unlatched
when all the three voltages is restored to normalcy. STZERO along with the absence of
dead line detection, FUSE-VTSZ is activated. If all the three voltages are not there, then
the output signal FUSE-VTF3Ph is activated.

The fuse failure condition is stored in the non-volatile memory and during start-up, this
condition is checked thereby establishing the corresponding starting conditions.
The fuse failure function can be locked by activating the FUSE-BLOCK input.
