The trailer starts with the logo of the film studio appearing briefly on the screen as the non-diegetic

sound of upbeat jazz music starts playing before cutting to a shot of a woman kneeling in snow,
inspecting a dead body before announcing through use of diegetic speech that theyve had a
shooting. This shot serves to concisely convey to the audience the premise of the film.

It then quickly cuts to a close up shot of a man with a revolver to further articulate the premise
combined with the use of messy use of costume mies-en-scene to suggest attributes of his
character. Narration in a generic trailer voice starts, the narration in this trailer serves to highlight
how this film deviates from other films in the crime drama genre by articulating the contrast

between the strange story and mundane setting which serves to set this film apart from others.

The next shot is of a close up of an old man diegetically making a noise towards the camera, there is
then a hard cut (starting to increase the pace of the editing) to this shot coincides with the narrator
talking about the strangeness of the story so the un-contextualised shot of the man serves to
illustrate that point.

This point is further complimented with the next shot which is a tracking shot of a woman with a
bedsheet over her head running (who we can assume is being chased).

The next shot is of someone about to be attacked with an axe to further accentuate the murder plot
but is juxtaposed with the upbeat jazz to give it an over the top almost comedic effect to bring the
attention of the audience to the absurdity of the events.

After a brief shot of the police woman who was checking the body at the beginning this is than
match cut to a statue of a lumberjack with the empty mies en scene of a black sky to convey how the

location is integral to the film and is also one of its defining features.

This slightly unsettling image then fades to show a cafe where the policewoman is waiting in line,
this serves to illustrate the binary opposites of law and felony that is a prominent theme in this film.

More shots leading up to various murders follow interspersed with shots of the woman investigating
while the narration switches to reviews singing this films praises. Finally it cuts back to a shot of a
stretch of snow similar to that from the first shot with the title across the screen. The fact that the
trailer starts and finishes on similar shots illustrates that the film will probably use the equilibrium
structure synonymous with films where mundanity is a prominent theme as the situation is more or
less the same before and after the results of the film.
