Vedanta,ortheHinduteachingsofnondualism.Itwaswrittenaround788820CE.

ThespeakerofthepoemisnominallythegodShiva,butitisgenerallyseenasastatementbyaknowingpersonofidentitywithShivaorBrahman.The
speakerlistsintheearlierverseswhathe(orBrahman)isnot.Heisnotbodyormind,northethingsthatattachthemtoeachotherandtotheworld,
includingtheintellect,thesenses,thepracticesoflife,theoccurrencesoflifesuchasbirthanddeath.Inthelastversehesaysthathepermeatesthe
universe,andthatheisconsciousness,blissandthesoul,andbyimplication,theAtmanandBrahman.[2][3]
ItissaidthatthatwhendiakarawasayoungboyofeightandwanderingnearRiverNarmada,seekingtofindhisguru,heencounteredtheseer
Gaudapadawhoaskedhim,"Whoareyou?".Theboyansweredwiththesestanzas,whichareknownas"Nirvaakam"ortmaakam".Gaudapada
accepteddiakaraashisdisciple.TheversesaresaidtobevaluedtoprogressincontemplationpracticesthatleadtoSelfRealization.
"Nirva"iscompleteequanimity,peace,tranquility,freedomandjoy."tma"istheTrueSelf.

amIthefiveinstrumentsofelimination,procreation,motion,grasping,orspeaking.Iamindeed,Thateternalknowingandbliss,theauspicious
(ivam),loveandpureconsciousness.
3)Ihavenohatredordislike,noraffiliationorliking,norgreed,nordelusion,norprideorhaughtiness,norfeelingsofenvyorjealousy.Ihavenoduty
