Class 7 Chapter : Light
Notes : Annual Examination
Q.1. What do you mean by rectilinear propagation of light?
Ans. It means light always travels in a straight line.
Q.2. How can we change the direction of the light?
Ans. By the phenomenon called reflection.
Q.3. What do you mean by reflection of light?
Ans. When a ray of light falls on the surface of any polished surface like mirror, it bounces back in the
same
medium. This is called reflection.
Q.4. What do you mean by (a) real image (b) virtual image?
Ans. (a) Image which can be obtained on a screen.
(b) image which can not be obtained on a screen.
Q.5. What is the nature of image formed by a plane mirror?
Ans. Image formed by plane mirror
(i) is virtual & erect.
(ii) is of same size as that of object.
(iii) is at same distance behind the mirror as the object in front of it.
Q.6. What is lateral inversion?
Ans. In an image formed by the mirror, the left side of the object is seen on the right side in the image,
& right
side of the object appears to be on the left side in the image. This is lateral inversion.
Q.7. What is a (a) Convex mirror (b) Concave mirror?
Ans. (a) A mirror which reflects the light from its inner polished side, is convex mirror.
(b) A mirror which reflects light from its outer polished surface, is concave mirror.
Q.8. What kind of image is formed by a concave mirror?
Ans. The image formed by a concave mirror depends on the distance of the object from the mirror.
For an
object beyond the focus, the image is real, inverted & in front of the mirror. For objects closer than
the
focus, the image is virtual, erect & magnified. This image is formed behind the mirror.
Q.9. What are the uses of concave mirror?
Ans. (i) it is used as a reflector in search- light & head- lights of the cars & scooters.
(ii) it is used as a shaving mirror.
(iii) it is used by the dentist to examine the teeth of the patient.
Q.10. What kind of image is formed by convex mirror?
Ans. The image formed by convex mirror is always virtual, erect & smaller than the object.
Q.11. What is the use of convex mirror?
Ans. I) It is used as a rear view mirror in cars & scooters.
ii) Used at Metro Stations and big departmental stores to keep a check.

Q.12. What kind of image is formed by a convex lens?

Ans. When an object is beyond its focus, a convex lens forms an image that is real & inverted. When
an object
is closer than the focus, the image is virtual, erect & magnified.
Note: When convex lens is used to see objects magnified, then it is called a magnifying glass.
CODE - A
Q.13. What kind of image is formed by a concave lens?
Ans. A concave lens always forms virtual, erect & smaller image than the object.
Q.14. What happens when beam of light enters a prism?
Ans. It splits into seven colors.
This means the white light consists of seven colors.
Q.15. How many colors are present in a rainbow?
Ans. Seven. These are - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo & violet
Q.16. What are the uses of lens.
Ans. 1. Magnifying glass Convex lens
2. To correct eye defects
a) People who cant see far off objects clearly wear concave lens.
b) People who cant see near by objects clearly wear convex lens.
3. Lenses are also used in Microscope, Telescope etc.
