U.S. Culture
In Module 9, you learned the different types of cultural subsystems technological, sociological, and
ideological. Please be sure to read in Chapter 7, The Diffusion of U.S. Popular Culture (pp. 284286). In this assignment you are being asked to define these subsystems with respect to the United
States and to reflect on the impact of U.S. culture in the world today and how different U.S. culture
and its subsystems might be in the future. Write, at a minimum, a two hundred word essay that
answers the following points:
1) Explain the technological, sociological and ideological subsystems of the United States. This is
not intended to be anything in great depth but how technologically advanced is the United States
compared to the rest of the world? What are our major organizations and what ideological principles
are most common?
2) What impact does U.S. culture have on other parts of the world (this could be defined in terms of
specific cultural traits or the cultural subsystems)? What other part of the world do you believe is
having the most significant impact on U.S. culture today?
3) How different do you believe U.S. culture will be in fifty years and what are the main forces in that
cultural change?
