SAP LES solution from inconso AG

provides Greiner Bio-One even more
Power

Your Warehouse Management:

inconso Add-Ons make transports of

Gardena and others more efficient

Greiner Bio-One International AG is completing a new warehouse at their headquarters and production site in Kremsmnster (Upper Austria). The warehouse is to be managed
and controlled with a central SAP LES including a SAP based material flow control.
inconso AG was given the order for the development and implementation. Among other
goals, the further increase in efficiency and
process quality, the implementation of a highly efficient instrument for controlling and
planning the logistics processes as well as control possibilities for the management are the
goals of this solution.

With the new feature inconsoWMS

Everywhere, the solutions of the inconsoWMS
Product Suite are now accessible from everywhere via the web. The access using web-capable end equipment such as an iPad or iPhone is possible for use anywhere in real-time.
Thanks to this innovation, the inconsoWMS
Product Suite can be operated not only as the
classical on-site installation, but also as ASP or
via cloud computing. This is also made possible through the technology platform inconso
Windows Framework (IWF), which offers a significant improvement in flexibility and handling of the proven inconso Warehouse Management System and is available in the current version in its full functionality in the web.

Garden equipment, tools and machines:

Gardena products enjoy growing demand.
hortus GmbH, founded two years ago and the
logistics subsidiary of the Gardena group, ensures that the supply of all materials from the
distribution center in Ulm, Germany arrive ontime and efficiently at the customers and carries
out comprehensive logistics services also for
third parties outside the group.

In the course of the current warehouse

construction and based on the complex execution of the logistics processes, inconso AG
will expand the existing computer systems
with a new warehouse management system
(WMS). A central SAP LES with a SAP based
material flow control will be used. The decisive
factors for giving the contract to inconso AG
were the many years of experience in the control of complex, fully automated material flows
using SAP as well as the numerous references
in the pharmaceutical industry.

This highly flexible user interface enables

a better user friendliness and many modifications can be done by the customer. For example, dialogs can be sorted in ascending and
descending order in list displays by clicking
on the columns and sequencing of columns
by drag&drop. In addition, the user and rights
management has been greatly refined. With
IWF, the operator receives new possibilities for
operating the inconso warehouse solutions
for highly automated logistics centers as well
as manually operated warehouses completely
via web browsers.

In order to increase the productivity of the

logistics, to have better instruments for controlling and to reduce the costs, hortus implemented a transport management system under SAP.
On the way to a new IT landscape, Gardena and
hortus relied on inconsos support in workshops
and reference visits. In order to close functional
gaps in the standard processes and to optimize
the project implementation, inconso used SAP
based transport Add-Ons in the project. These
SAP Add-Ons are an unique offering from
inconso in the transport market. Among others,
functionality for load space optimization and
transport optimization based on costs were integrated.
The basis for optimization was the build-up
of a meaningful reporting for the transport and
freight cost processes as well as the implementation of an integrated freight cost invoicing.

Luggage in Munich: No waiting thanks to support

inconso AG and Vanderlande Industries support the luggage
system in Terminal 1 in Munich

In order to continuing guaranteeing the high quality of baggage

handling, Munich airport has entered into a five year on-site support
contract with Vanderlande Industries as the general contract and
inconso AG for the baggage conveyor system in Terminal 1. The baggage conveyor system in the kilometer long terminal consists of four
nearly identical systems (Module A - D). Each system has two Check-In
islands and transfer feeds. The system is monitored and supported
around the clock on seven days a week.
The support team consists of about 20 persons, of which two
come from inconso. They are responsible for the support, maintenance and disruption clearance of the existing PCs, server hardware
and system software as well as support for the inconso developed application software for the sorting calculator in the modules A D and
the distribution calculator.

The system ensures that the baggage is routed correctly and is loaded into the correct plane. Where a bag has to be transported to in the
7.7 kilometers long network is recognized by the system using the barcode on the baggage tags from the airlines. The average processing
time is eight minutes. The bags and suitcases from the arriving flights
are also sorted and sent to one of the eight arrival carousels or handle
the transfer luggage.

SAP EWM Everything easy?!

How the implementation of SAP EWM solutions can be accelerated by up to 50 %
from Thomas Gries, Member of the board at inconso AG

Source: inconso AG

SAP EWM is taking a leading market position as a high performance intralogistics system. The particular strengths of SAP EWM, the
comprehensive spectrum of standard functionality and the resulting requirements for a correct setup and configuration can all lead quickly
to a protracted process. Thanks to years of experience in numerous successful implementation projects, inconso uses a rapid deployment
model names SAP EWM easy to shorten the implementation time by up to 50 %.

Thomas Gries,
Member of the board at inconso AG

With SAP EWM, the ERP market leader

from Walldorf has brought a logistics system
to the market, which meets a high level of requirements in logistics and IT. Correspondingly, SAP AG and its Special Expertise Partner,
which inconso AG has been for many years,
have a high and continuous demand for this
solution.
What makes this system that was a completely new development a couple of years
ago so attractive? Well, SAP EWM offers fitting
solutions for a whole group of warehouse logistics requirements that was not covered by
the SAP product spectrum in the past. Many
functionality such as an integrated material
flow system, kitting creation, resource management, quality management functions or
labor management were developed based on
customer requirements and are therefore very
practical oriented. In addition, SAP EWM is based on the most current standards in IT.
Powerful, but complex
However, this performance breadth and
depth have there process. The power of the
system corresponds also to its high complexity.
And this, in turn, makes it possible, but also necessary to represent each individual requirement of a company in concrete solutions onsite. For these types of modifications, SAP has
the so-called Business Add-Ins (BADIs) on

which the concrete strategies can be supplemented.

To compare: While SAP LES has about 70 socalled BADIs, SAP EWM has several hundred.
This spectrum, of course, offers the possibility to
do sophisticated modifications. On the other
hand though, the work requires a high effort.
This not only costs for customizing and modifications, but also extends the implementation
phases for the system significantly in duration.
Does this confirm the old stereotype that
SAP standard systems can do way to much and
are too expensive and slow to implement?
With the right partner that has the expertise
and required resources, this stereotype regarding the suitability of EWM is disbanded and
the entire potential of EWM can be used.
More impulse for implementation projects
In the course of a large number of successful EWM projects at customers from different
branches and project scopes, inconso has developed a set of templates and put together a methodology that will provide the decisive speed
for the implementation projects. Under the designation SAP EWM easy, the methodology makes it possible to do secure and quick implementations of SAP EWM logistics solutions.

Source: inconso AG

Essential components of SAP EWM easy are

described here. They ensure a significant savings in time and effort in all of the decisive phases of the project in the business blueprint, in
the realization phase and the testing and go-live
phases.
For this, inconso uses both proven Business
Content Sets as well as pre-developed templates and projects teams working along precise procedure models.
How does this look in detail? It is understood that across the entire project, proven and
quality assured project methodology with defined and controlled project plans are used. The
first step is about precise and detailed gathering
of the concrete requirements of the logistics system. The decisive instrument here is the configuration guidelines.
Configuration for customer requirement
This comprehensive questionnaire is based
on many years of experience and the far-reaching logistics know-how of inconso AG not
only in SAP solutions (SAP LES and SAP EWM),
but also with its own best-of-breed systems
such as inconsoWMS. It structures the logistic
process areas, tasks and goals as well as the
technical environment. Its thorough completion already results in a comprehensive and fundamental process description tailored to fit the

customer requirements. From this description,

process documents can be generated and
checklists that structure and facilitate the next
steps can be put together.
On this basis, templates can be used in a
whole row of industries in the realization phase.
They are applicable in the sense of a ready-torun method to enable quick implementations
even when all the fine details are not completely
considered. The templates are available for each
of the branches such as Chemical, Pharma, Consumer Goods and also Spare Parts Logistics and
are oriented on the Best Practices of each
branch.
The templates cover not only branch requirements, they also already consider detailed requirements from different subprocesses. The
pallet of existing, finished components goes all
the way down to the configuration switches
that must be set based on the concrete requirements. This type of pre-configured processes
and content only need to be connected to the
BADIs in order to be add to the running solution.
Test scenarios accelerate implementations
There is a rule that the path to a quick implementation is to use as much of the pre-configured components as possible. This affects the
test phase as well. The planning of tests occurs
significantly quicker when prepared scenarios

can be used.
During the parallel training of workers using
proven materials, the performance and the behavior of the system can already be simulated
even before the tests in the production system
have begun.
What does that mean for the customers of
inconso? With our approach, SAP EWM can be
implemented in the same amount of time that a
SAP LES implementation would take. The customer receives a SAP EWM with a significantly larger functional spectrum than SAP LES.
Although it is possible that not all the fine
details are available immediately with this method, this point is more than outweighed by the
advantages of using such a method. With the
efficiency advantages resulting from its use, the
new system operates faster and more cost effectively. At the same time, it opens up the possibility to start very early in the further process
optimization and to achieve additional efficiencies and quality advantages.
These statements are more than just future
perspectives. They describe practical experiences from the many successful projects using
this methodology and instruments. And our
goal? That even more users can say: SAP EWM?
It was easy!

LOREL: Faster than the production needs!

In the new PCC of LOREL GmbH, inconsoWMS Automotive manages the production synchronous
supply
Only 6 kilometers away from the Bremen Daimler product location, LOREL GmbH consolidates the parts and modules of 270 suppliers in a 30,000 m warehouse for the leading automobile manufacturer. The parts are stored here, picked and sent to the assembly lines
in a production synchronous manner. The processes are managed by inconsoWMS Automotive. A central unique characteristic of the
system: It puts LOREL in the position to assemble multi-supplier sets for the production supply.

Source: LOREL - LOgistik RELais Bremer Kreuz GmbH

Already at the end of 1999, LOREL GmbH

took over a large part of the tasks for storage and
Just-in-Time delivery from the former
DaimlerChrysler AG. In order to meet the high
demands, LOREL worked with a team from inconso AG from the beginning as an efficient management of such complex processes requires a
high performance IT support. After all, it is all
about receiving and handling the delivered parts
with a high transparency and quality so that they
can be Just-in-Time and Just-in-Sequence synchronized into the production processes on the
assembly lines. The success of the joint approach
shows that in just a few years, the former warehouse location was threatening to burst at the
seams and was too small for the newest models.

The result was a new logistics location and

the move to the new facility was coupled with
inconsoWMS Automotive replacing the former
system.
Since the opening of the new location in
2009, LOREL has supplied not only the assembly
lines in a production synchronous manner, but
also delivered other goods to the production
location. These location goods were cross-docked directly to the goods issue zones from
which they were delivered to the production
location with the next shuttle truck. These articles normally stay for only 2 hours at LOREL.
With the additional tasks, the center received
the status of Plant Consolidation Center (PCC)
and was the first of its kind that had all the functions at a single location.

Different origin uniform management

Many parts and modules are deliveries in
special racks. Several hundred different, reusable racks are used. Several workers receive the
truck loads. The control worker checks the completeness and the condition of the goods. Simultaneously, he scans the barcode of the load
unit. Immediately, he receives the printing of
the newly assigned package number. With this,
he completes the transfer from individual designation of diverse suppliers to the uniform management of the goods in the warehouse management system and independently also the
determination when the legal and fiscal property transfer of ownership from the supplier to the
automobile manufacturer is completed. This
makes it possible to now handle all the multiple

supplier articles only based on the requirements

of the production logic and logistics.
Sequencing: Differentiated processes for individual premium models
Here, the tact of the work at LOREL is entirely dependent upon the processes at
Daimler. The offer to the demanding customers in the last years has become increasingly individualized. Long ago, the vehicle owner can already put together the many
comfort and performance properties of his
special premium vehicle.
An efficient assembly of this row of individual models on the smallest space requires
a highly flexible assembly logistics. For the
tacting of the multitude of different variations, it must be ensured that the exact part
requested by the customer is available at exactly the moment when his vehicle reaches
each of the assembly points. The impulse
call-offs for the JIS delivery are compared

with the list of parts that are already in the

system thanks to a separate EDI transfer . The
system builds upon the bases of virtual racks
for the entire consumption locations in the
production location and triggers the picking.
Here, it is considered that each rack can be
used for different parts based on the sizes
and different forms. Also, a set sequence can
be different depending upon the production
logic.
The core monitor
From the receiving of the impulse call-off,
LOREL has 90 minutes until the goods have to
be loaded onto the shuttle transport. In the picking, each movement is therefore time monitored. The monitor in inconsoWMS Automotive is
the heart of the order monitoring: This is where
all the current and real-time call-offs from the
customer are compared with the available capacities in order to be able to react at any time. The
routes are also monitored just like the picking
pools and processing times. It is already fore-

For Montblanc, an exclusive

SAP LES
inconso Add-Ons and developments achieve the highest system performance and reliability

Montblanc, since generations as a manufacturers of handmade, high value writing utensils, has also made a name as a manufacturer with a wide pallet of exclusive products that fulfill the highest demands on quality, design, tradition and master craftsmanship.
And for the support of customers and its own boutiques, high logistics quality is considered an every day requirement.

With a look at the planned additional

growth and after the capacity limits of the
existing warehouse came into view,
Montblanc decided to centralize the worldwide logistics processing and build a new
distribution center.
For every important decision already in
the concept and planning phases
Montblanc logistics people brought their
experience and knowledge together. This
resulted in a 8,100 m highly modern warehouse in Ellerbek near Hamburg with 70,000
locations for pallets, containers and totes
that reflected the outer elegance of the
brand and met all the requirements of the
inner organization for quality and performance.
inconso AG was commissioned with implementing a SAP LES in central SAP system
that also directly controlled the PLC level of
conveyor technology with the help of the
inconso products inconsoS/Line. Along with
the comfort of the same look and feel and
the removal of all interface maintenance,
the company gained principally the possibility to maintain and develop further the entire solution by themselves.

The entire business logic was configured and
built into SAP LES by inconso. In order to fulfill
all the performance and quality specifications,
the SAP standard was extended on different locations, additional functions and especially

controlling of the system.

using the inconso developed Add-Ons.

It is natural that a separate and secured safe
warehouse was set up for the especially high
priced articles and collector articles. Only a limited number of people have access to this area
from which the mainly individual pieces are delivered in special transports. Many collectors
have specific serial number ranges of new models reserved and it is one of the logistics quality criteria that such wishes are reliably fulfilled.

Each customer can have his writing utensil

or leather article engraved. This work is done in
its own area in the second level. If a delivery to a
Montblanc boutique or a jewelry shop contains
such an individual order, the individual article is
taken out and first engraved or imprinted
according to the customer wish and then added to the shipment again.
Exclusivity of product influences processes
The uniqueness of the handmade writing
equipment as well as watches and jewelry underscores Montblanc through the assignment
of worldwide unique numbers on each individual piece: the so-called Quo-Vadis number.
With this, it is possible to tell which individual
piece was sent from which store to which customer. At least three times, the Quo-Vadis
numbers are recorded in the warehouse and
controlled for validity: at goods receiving, prepicking and by packing. But, first when the receiver has confirmed the information, the
Montblanc self developed and very demanding
tracking ends.

It is these exclusive characteristics of the logistics at Montblanc that require a consistently

high performance from the information technology. As is, the entire warehouse management and control including the control of the
PLC level all runs on the central Montblanc server in Geneva. Especially to smoothen out the
utilization peaks, inconso has modified the
booking routines in SAP: A part of the booking
occurs asynchronously to ensure a short time
response.
inconso Add-Ons for more performance
A special challenge was the representation
of the reservation strategies. Then, in the interest of a throughput optimized picking, such
materials that are located in containers for which
reservations already exist and are underway to
the picking location must also be reserved.
For this process, an Add-On from inconso
that is integrated seamlessly in he standard SAP
standard document flow is used. All movements
of the loading units and the running inventory

Fast movers are picked in hanging equipment.

changes are booked through the pure SAP standard way. In order to save time for invoicing and
invoice printing, inconso found a process organization that can be run parallel to the work process during booking and printing.
At the control location, the lists of the outstanding orders is run. Right at the beginning of
the day, 600 to 1,000 transport orders are waiting. These have to be prioritied and pushed
into the facility. In overview graphics that are
integrated into the SAP system, the worker sees
the warehouse control dialog and the order related facility utilization. Along with the fill ratio
of the various warehouse areas and a row of key
performance indicators, he can see at a glance
and determine how many and which of the integrated RF terminals of the forklift fleet also delivered by inconso are registered. On the basis of
these multiple information, he assigned finally
the deliveries to eack pack location and is responsible for the final release of the deliveries.
Not only at this key position does
Montblanc rely on experience and quality of the
worker. Most are already at the company for
many years and participate in the broad qualification and further education offering. The workers provide the decisive input for the design of
the processes and the dialogs and participate
heavily in the currently running additional optimizations. With these, the performance aspects
already achieved are to be improved even more.

Inventory security and throughput at

Stabilo International improved
inconso fits SAP LES system to requirements at Stabilo Frankreich
Since fall 2007, Stabilo, the market leader for writing utensils in many countries, is using a warehouse management system based on
SAP LES at the central production site in Weienburg. inconso AG implemented the solution in close cooperation with the IT workers from
Stabilo. One of the reasons for the selection of a SAP module was to be able to use an uniform software for the logistics processes
internationally as well. The implementation of the central predefined solution in the modern distribution center for France near Strasbourg
was more than a simple roll-out.

The French subsidiary works in one of the

most important foreign markets for Stabilo and
has a significant market share. The success was
even noticeable in the language: To highlight
stabiloter in France. In the warehouse of the
French subsidiary, store-in and replenishment
take place with forklifts and the picking is path
optimized with picking carts based on the Manto-Goods principle. Clever strategies had to be
considered and the opportunity to implement
SAP LES was used to achieve significant progress both technically and with the in-house
processes.
The destination location determination for
the store-in is a multi-step process. The WMS orientates first on the criteria such as warehouse

and warehouse location types as well as height

and weight classes. Within this filtered selection
of locations, the next available location is chosen based on the store-in strategy set for the
warehouse type.
On the technical side, the paper driven location was converted to an RF supported location
so that the multi-order picking process can now
be used at Strasbourg. Through this aspect, the
inventory security and the throughput were significantly improved. Logistics manager, Jacqui
Entzmann, is very satisfied with the entire package of technical innovations: Thanks to the
efficient realization by inconso, the large project
was finished on time and quite smoothly.

For this purpose, inconso developed an SAP

ECC release-capable template based on the solution in Weienburg. With this, the connection
to the group-wide SAP ERP system from the order advices through to the inventory bookings
is guaranteed. At the same time, the existing
Weienburger solution was extended with the
mentioned special functions and requirements
of a manual warehouse. Special attention was
paid to ability for future updates of SAP basis
software and SAP Service Packs to be easily added and installed. This ensures that Stabilo can
also stay up-to-date on the current SAP systems
in the future as well.

In France, Stabilo has a market share that is in parts over 50 %. Efficient logistics helps here.

inconsoWMS X manages replacement parts distribution at energy facility constructor MWM GmbH
From their newly opened logistic center in Lorsch, MWM GmbH delivers replacement parts for the maintenance and repairs worldwide. As a worldwide leading system supplier for high efficiency and environmentally friendly complete facilities for decentral energy
supplies with gas and diesel motors, they enable a seamless operation of their constructed facilities. As the warehouse management
system, inconsoWMS X ensures for the efficient and high performance management of all processes from the beginning.

From Brazil to Bangladesh and from Sydney

to Seattle, the tradition rich MWM GmbH delivers motors that are sometimes as large as halls
for energy for industry facilities and clinics, for
airports and whole city neighborhoods. The
oldest of these titans originates still from the
1920s and performs its job day for day without
a problem. So that this stays the same, the motors are maintained in regular intervals and, if
necessary, repaired. Since none of the operators
have the required parts in their own warehouses, the supply from the manufacturer is guaranteed.

planning and calculation that builds the basis

for the inventory data in the warehouse management system.
In viewing the mostly very different articles
in each order, it is apparent when the optimization of the order processing times through to
the shipment are given special attention. This is
where the large and small parts of an order are
picked in parallel. Especially through the optimization of the picking trips in the shelving areas,
in the small and wide aisle areas, inconsoWMS
ensures a quick processing. MWM also uses the

monitor functions of inconsoLIS, which helps to

transparently manage both the utilization of the
different areas and monitor the processing statuses of different customer orders in a detailed
manner. inconsoWMS assures that the lights do
not go out in the MWM supplied energy facilities through high quality and punctual replacement parts deliveries in the logistics center
Lorsch.

The completely manually operated logistics

center in Lorsch impresses with the variety of
articles and with the multitude of different
warehouse areas. On 12,000 m of storage
space, the high bay and block warehouse, small

Krmelkisten in the Paternoster.
Over 40,000 articles, from 20 ton heavy
crank housing through to an one gram light ORing are available at the MWM logistic center
and can be delivered to customers, sales partners and the 11 country subsidiaries around the

Especially there where the maintenance is in
its own hand, shipments can be relatively well
