Description
This chapter provides the users familiarity to the BSC6810 subrack, boards and LEDS.
Observe the boards on the RNC, the running status of LEDS of RNC and record all

Chapter 2 Getting Started with the RNC LMT


Description
This describes how to start, configure, use, and quit the LMT application. Throughout this lab
exercise, you will be able to add, modify, delete office information and log in, log out RNC
equipment by LMT application software.

2.1 Starting the Local Maintenance Terminal of the RNC

The default setting of RNC in the lab:

Chapter 3 Running RNC MML Commands


Description
This describes how to input, execute MML commands for different command mode, including
single command mode and batch command mode. Throughout this lab exercise, you will be
able to execute MML commands.

3.1 Starting the RNC MML Client


3.1.1 Starting the MML client using the navigation tree
1. In the Local Maintenance Terminal window, click the MML Command tab below the
left navigation tree to display the Navigation Tree pane.

2. Double-click the MML Command node in the Navigation Tree pane to start the MML
client.

3.1.2 Starting the MML client by clicking the icon

3.2 Running a Single MML Command

3.3.2 Time batch running of MML commands


1. Click the Timing Batch Command tab in the MML Batch pane
2. Click Add. The Add Batch Task dialog box is displayed
3. Select the batch file and then set the time batch running parameters

Chapter 4 Managing RNC Alarms


Description
This describes how to manage RNC alarms. It helps analyze the alarm, locate, and rectify the
faults. Throughout this lab exercise, you will be able to browse real time alarm, save alarm,
check history alarm, and set alarm shield.

4.1 Setting RNC Alarm Logs


4.1.1 Setting the Capacity and Time Limit of an RNC Alarm Log
1. On the MML client, run the SET ALMCAPACITY command
Modify the max alarm log number and alarm log save time to 90,000 and 80days. And then
check the result by the command LST ALMCAPACITY.

4.2.2 Browsing Alarms


1. In the Local Maintenance Terminal window, choose Fault Management > Browse
Alarm to display the Alarm Browse window. The top of the window is the fault alarm
browse pane and the bottom is the event alarm browse pane.

2. To delete recovery alarms from the fault alarm browse window: Right-click the fault
alarm browse pane and choose Clear All Recovery Alarms from the shortcut menu.

3. To learn the details of an alarm, double-click it. The Alarm Detailed Information dialog
box is displayed

4.2.3 Querying RNC Alarm Logs


1. In the Local Maintenance Terminal window, choose Fault Management > Query

4.2.4 Querying RNC Alarm Handling Suggestions


1. In the Alarm Browse window or the Query Alarm Log window, double-click an alarm.

4.2.5 Saving the Information on an RNC Alarm


1. In the Alarm Browse window or the Query Alarm Log window:

To save all alarms, right-click and choose Save All Alarms from the shortcut menu.

To save selective alarms, select the alarms (hold Ctrl or Shift to select multiple
alarms), right-click them, and then choose Save Selected Alarms from the shortcut
menu.

Chapter 5 Managing RNC Logs


Description
This describes how to manage RNC logs. Throughout this lab exercise, you will be able to
distinguish different log types, collect logs and export to the local PC, and use FTP tool.

5.1 Setting the Time and Count Limits of the RNC Log
1. Enter SET LOGLIMIT on the MML client, and then press Enter or click

5.3 Exporting an RNC Operation Log


1. Using the MML client, run the EXP LOG command, set Log Type to
OPTLOG(OPERATING LOG), and then set other parameters as required.

directory\FTP on the BAM active workspace.

5.6 Exporting a RNC Running Log

Description
This describes how to manage the RNC equipment by using the device panel and display

board links, and board alarms in GUI mode.

6.1 Using the RNC Device Panel

6.1.4 Querying the CPU/DSP Usage of an RNC Board


1. Open the device panel or open the display panel
2. Right-click a board in position in the device panel or display panel, and then choose
Display CPU Usage from the shortcut menu. The CPU/DSP Usage window is displayed

6.2 Using the RNC Display Panel


6.2.1 Starting the RNC Display Panel
1. Click the Device Panel tab. Expand the Device Management node.

1. On the display panel, right-click the alarm light to be queried, and then choose Query

Chapter 7 Tracing and Viewing RNC Messages


Description
This describes how to manage the RNC traced messages. RNC message tracing is
implemented through menus. RNC message tracing management is used to trace interfaces,
signaling links, and internal messages. It is applicable to routine equipment maintenance,
debugging, and fault location. Throughout this lab exercise, you can create a tracing task and
save the result to one file. And you will be able to use Trace Viewer offline tool to open a
tracing result.

7.1 Creating a tracing task


1. In the navigation pane, click the Maintenance tab, expand the Trace Management >
Interface Trace Task, and then double-click an option, like Iu, Iur, Iub and so on.. A dialog
box is displayed. For example, Uu interfac tracing.
Run the command

the active CELL ID.

2. In the tracing box, the parameters in red are mandatory, we must give the value for
these parameters. But for the other optional parameters, we can choose as required.

3. Click OK.

7.2 Saving an RNC Traced Message


1. Right-click in the message browse window and choose Save All Messages from the
shortcut menu; or press and hold down Ctrl or Shift, and then choose the messages to be
saved in the message browse window. Then right-click them and choose Save Selected
Messages from the shortcut menu. The Save dialog box is displayed.

2. Enter a file name, and then specify the file type and save path.
3. Click Save to save the file in the specified path.

7.3 Browsing an RNC Traced Message Offline


1. Select either of the following ways to start the Trace Viewer:

Viewer.

2. Select the file that saves the traced messages. The default save path for the files is
LMT installation directory\client\output\RNC\LMT software version number\trace.
3. Click Open or double-click the file. The Trace Viewer window displays traced messages
in the file.
4. Browse these messages, or double-click one to view its details
5. To browse other saved messages, choose File > Open. In the Open dialog box, select
and open files to read the traced messages that are saved in the files.

Chapter 8 RNC Real-Time Performance Monitoring


Description
This describes how to monitor RNC performance in real time. By these monitoring result, we
can real-time learn the running status of RNC and collect some important information to
analyze the fault. Throughout this lab exercise, you will be able to learn all kinds of operations
for real-time performance monitoring. By performing these tasks, you can monitor like the
RNC CPU/DSP usage, the connection state of the physical links, the cell performance and so
on.

8.1 Creating a new performance monitoring task


1. In the navigation pane, click the Maintenance tab.
2. Expand the Realtime Performance Monitoring node, and then double-click an option
as required, like Cell performance monitoring. The dialog is displayed.

3. In the monitoring dialog, the parameters in Red are mandatory,we must give the value
for these parameters. But for the other optional parameters, we can choose as required.
4. To list the available NodeBs use the LST NODEB command.

Chapter 10 Backup and Restore BAM Data


Description
This describes how to backup RNC BAM data.

10.1 Backing Up RNC System Data Manually


You must manually back up the BAM database before capacity expansion, upgrade, or load
For manual backup and restore, you need to remote login into the RNC. Use the Remote Desktop
Connection provided by Windows XP OS. Choose Start > Run > type mstsc /console > OK.

10.1.1 Using the backup tool


1. Starting BAM backup tool

Choose Start > All Programs > WCDMA RNC BAM > WCDMA RNC BAM Data
Backup and Restore Tool. A dialog box is displayed

Enter the password of the sa account of the BAM database

Click the Backup tab.

In the Backup file name area, click


to specify the backup file path and name.
Click Backup. When the backup finishes, the BAM prompts whether the backup is
successful, as shown Figure

10.1.2 Using the MML command


1. On the MML client, run the BKP DB command, and then set Path of Backup File and
Backup File Name to back up the data in the specified directory. On the FTP Client or
directly logging in to the BAM, you can get the backup files in the specified directory.

10.1.3 Restoring the BAM


1. Remote login into the BAM active IP address directly. To find out this IP, use the
command line DSP BAM.
2. Stop all BAM Services. Choose Start > All Programs > WCDMA RNC BAM > Stop
BAM Services.
3. Use the WCDMA RNC BAM Data Backup and Restore Tool to restore the BAM data.

Choose Start > All Programs > WCDMA RNC BAM > WCDMA RNC BAM Data
Backup and Restore Tool. A dialog box is displayed

Enter the password of the sa account of the BAM database

Click the Restore tab.

In the Restore file name area, click


to specify the restore file path and name.
Click Restore. When the restore finishes, the BAM prompts whether the restore is
successful. If successful, the BAM data is restored in the SQL database.

4. Start all BAM Services. Choose Start > All Programs > WCDMA RNC BAM > Start
BAM Services.
5. Login the BAM through the LMT. Use the command line FMT DATA to create the
restored *.dat loading files.
6. Reset the RNC to load the loading files into the FAM. Use the command line RST RNC.
