A 23-year-old Platteville man


was arrested after a hostage
situation in Platteville Thursday afternoon.
Douglas Forbes Jr. was taken
into custody by Platteville police after the incident at 175 N.
Water St.
A second man was taken into
custody after the incident, but
was released later after police
determined he wasnt involved
in the incident.
Police received a report of
a domestic violence incident
at the address today around
9 a.m., in which the victim reported being kicked and strangled Thursday morning and on
two previous occasions. The
victim told police that Forbes
had the victims 8-month-old
son with him, and she was due
to pick up the boy later today.
Police said in a news release
there was no indication at the
time that the boy was in immediate danger, but the victim
called Forbes later to arrange
for an earlier exchange time.

Police said Forbes then threatened to harm himself and the
boy if the victim didnt meet or
contact him.
Police, Grant County sheriff s deputies and the Grant
County Crisis Resolution Team
secured the area around the
house, and then made phone
contact with a person in the
house, but didnt receive much
cooperation, said Police Chief
Doug McKinley.

for fatal
bike crash
The driver in a carbicycle
crash that killed a 22-year-old
man on Business 151 Sept. 13
wont be charged, but he is facing four traffic citations.
A pickup truck driven by
Tyler P. Sullivan of Platteville
was driving west on Business
151 when his pickup truck
struck a bicycle ridden by
James Spencer Thomas, 22,
Platteville, at East Business
151 and Phillips Road Sept. 13
around 10:50 p.m.
Thomas was taken to Southwest Health in Platteville,
where he was pronounced
dead.
The Grant County District Attorneys office decided
against filing charges after
conferring with Platteville police and a Wisconsin State Patrol accident reconstruction
officer.

Platteville City Manager Karen Kurt opened


the Sept. 29 Common Council special meeting
by describing the citys 201620 Capital Improvement Plan as at this point more a wish
list than reality.
The city therefore could be said to have a
wish list of almost $43.6 million in capital projects over the next five years, $9.6 million of that
coming in 2016.
The Common Councils meeting informally
prioritized the list before budget deliberations,

including 2016 capital project spending, is considered later this year.


The plan includes nearly $4 million in street
work, including Bonson Street from Main Street
to Furnace Street, Richard Street from Straw Avenue to Chestnut Street, Short Street from Adams Street to Cedar Street, Cedar Street from
Water Street to Fourth Street, Mason Street
from Hollman Street to Lancaster Street, Furnace Street from Chestnut Street to its west end,
Biarritz Boulevard and DeValera Drive.

Georgia
murder
suspect
waives
extradition

The suspect in a Savannah,


Ga., homicide who was arrested
in Platteville Sept. 9 waived his
right to contest his extradition
to Georgia Monday afternoon.
Tyron Henry, 20, is wanted
in connection with the shooting death of Michael Anthony
Johnson, 50, of Savannah,
in Savannahs Metropolitan
neighborhood July 10, according to the SavannahChatham
Metropolitan Police Department.
Henrys extradition hearing
was held in Grant County Circuit Court Monday afternoon,
where he waived extradition,
according to court records.
Henry was arrested Sept. 9
by U.S. Marshals assisted by
Platteville police after a traffic stop at Siemers Street and
East Madison Street following
a stakeout of a house in the
700 block of Siemers Street.
