1. Plan a Model UN Conference. United Nations Association of the United States
of America. World Federation of UNAs. New York City, NY. 1999.
2.) The purpose of this work is to aid as a general supplementary source for teachers
and students alike who are aspiring to bring an MUN conference to their own school. 3).
Discussed in this web resource is a suggested skeletal structure for organizing a Model
United Nations conference, including the networking, advising, international topic
research, and time management that must be devoted to ensuring that the conference,
regardless of size, is successful. Also noted is the importance of every facet of the
conferences duration, from the pre-planning stage to the post-conference cleaning
involved. 4). The audience of this work is definitely teachers, students, or school staff
otherwise interested in creating an MUN conference. 5). This resource is the keystone to
my entire project, providing me relevant information, not through instruction, but through
general advice, as to how I can efficiently and effectively bring an MUN conference at
SSHS to fruition. Each section details the leadership responsibilities that are tied to
setting up everything as well as obscure information that would otherwise be lost on an
inexperienced high school student in terms of budgetary concerns and staff preparation.
6.) A noteworthy aspect of this resource, for my purposes, is the External Relations
section, which demystifies a previously nebulous aspect of organizing a conference, that
being the actual manner of advertising and inviting students and schools in proximity to
attend. This includes the etiquette and model that an invitation might follow, as well as a
suggestion to advertise through proactivity in other conferences, through mailing lists,
flyers, and a creation of a website. 7). This work, being an official document of the
branch of the United Nations that supervised MUN itself, can and is in no way defective
in terms of bias or information.
1. Simulating International Diplomacy: The National Model United Nations
Experience. William A. Hazleton & James E. Jacob. Taylor & Francis Online. Ohio.
1986.
2.) The purpose of this journal is to analyze through logistical evidence the ties between
Model United Nations and the integrating of simulation with the study of international
relations, ultimately concluding the benefits that the organization has in its
implementation in college, and other institutions of learning. 3.) The journal essentially
details the fundamentals of Model United Nations as a functioning simulation of socio
political debate through the lens of the United Nations while simultaneously extrapolating
data observed from a specific year at the NMUN conference to assess the preparedness

of advisors and delegates alike in the activities. 4). The audience of this journal seems to
be the peers of the authors, those being professors who might see some scholarly
benefit from involving the Model United Nations format or organization itself into their
curriculum, as well as any other educator who could reap the benefit of the survey and
journals findings. 5). For me, the pieces of the journal that I can extrapolate as relevant
to my research are the section wherein the authors assess MUN as a learning
experience, the framework and organization of the NMUN conference (the most
prominent conference in the world to be held as a golden standard in preparing my own
conference), as well as the mindset and readiness of delegates, a factor for me to
consider when entering the conference with my own MUN team. 6.) The special feature
of this journal is its heavy use of the statistical evidence gathered from a survey involving
the largest MUN conference in the world, analyzing over 80 institutions involved and
thus yielding a more precise and cogent conclusion based on the evidence, to be relied
upon. 7.) A minor defect of this journal, if any, is the year of publication. While the survey
was extensive, the results are sure to be archaic in comparison to what they might be if
a 2015 NMUN conference had been analyzed, and so the 1983 year of publication
results in a slightly less credible array of data. However, considering the aspects of the
journal that I will be utilizing for research are not entirely reliant on the survey and can
still be applied to today, it's less impactful.
1. The Model United Nations Revisited. James P. Muldoon Jr.. United Nations
Association of the USA. New York City, NY. 1995.
2.)The main purpose of this piece is to promote the MUN branch of the UN, commending
the growth it has and could potentially make (from the perspective of the 1990s), while
also addressing the detrimental aspects of the club that have arisen over the years in
terms of the simulation aspect. 3.) In the article, the author goes into detail about the
fundamentals of MUN, including its history dating to WWII, all the way to its growth into
the tens of thousands of participants. Light is also shone upon the manners in which
many delegates often rely on tactics and past experience rather than research in
winning the game. Discussed also is opportunities to expand to other parts of the
globe. 4.) The possible audience for this work is educators and members of the UNA
USA, considering how it focuses on the issue of the lack of realism in MUN and
essentially alluding to how it must be amended by encouraging research and informal
debate, facilitated by authorities among the delegates. 5.) The aspect of this piece that
has relevance to me as a future organizer of an MUN conference is the notion that
students may rely upon tricks and technique to achieve awards that are more deserved
to harder workers. Thus this article enlightened me in ways that I can prevent this by
informing staff and chairman of committees (me being the supervisor) as to how to
potentially avoid this and make sure everything goes swimmingly during the conference.
6.) This journal has no special features aside from sparse statistics and information that
is especially reliable to an MUN member as the author is (at the time) a prominent leader
in the branch of the UN that oversees MUN. 7.) Potential bias in this article lies in the
fact that the author obviously has ties to MUN and is thus inclined to speak positively
about it, regardless of the flaws he might mention.

1. National Model United Nations NY Archives. National Model United Nations.

National Collegiate Conference Association. New York. 2009.
2.) The purpose of this piece is to officially and collectively contain the committees,
topics, and resolutions provided by said committees in one spot for every year that a
conference has been held in New York. 3.) The content is vast, but concisely, it details
specific committees present such as ECOSOC and AD HOC and DISEC, and their
purpose, as well as the numerous resolution papers to serve as examples of the best
offered during the conference. 4.) The audience for the work, as it is public record, is
meant for students and teachers alike to gain insight as to familiarize themselves with
what to expect or what to prepare when attending a conference. 5.) The relevance of this
source is purely in its raw informational provisions, especially the insight it provides as to
what committees I can think of including, and what these committees that I will need to
deeply familiarize myself with are. In addition, the presence of resolution papers of high
caliber allow me to comprehend, beyond even my own knowledge of resolution papers,
the standard that chairmen will have to judge for, potentially including myself. 6.) The
special feature of this NMUN officially sanctioned resource is, above its paramount
credibility, the resolution papers which will aid me in comprehending what I will be
supervising during the conference. 7.) There is no bias to be had here as it is purely data
and subjective data in the form of the quality of the resolution papers is negligible.
1. The Uses and Limits of the Model United Nations in an International Relations
Classroom. Daniel McIntosh. Slippery Rock University. Pennsylvania. 2001.
2.) The main purpose of this journalistic article is to weigh the benefits of MUN within a
classroom setting against the factors that inhibit it from reaching its potential and how a
teacher can avoid said inhibitions. 3.) The article essentially covers the history of MUN,
followed by how one can efficiently carry out an intriguing and thought provoking
conference that remains fun while using the rules set by the UNA USA. 4.) The audience
for this work is teachers, as the author directly says that this is tied to the classroom and
repeatedly makes reference to how instructors can avoid ruining a potentially great
classroom idea. 5.) This journalistic article holds particular relevance to my case as,
although the history and parts pertaining specifically to the classroom setting do not
apply to my circumstance, the aspects that are referring to the instructor as the head can
easily be replaced with the conventional chairmen who judge the delegates and thus
made applicable in the sense that chairmen I supervise should be advised to judge
delegates according to judgements I make based on the advice of this article (i.e.
observing the delegates who are more and less willing to return to the podium to speak,
and reacting and assigning points accordingly without favoring one side). 6.) This article
has no special features. 7.) There is no bias in this article, at least not in the sense that it
would noticeable distort the suggestions provided into something compromisingly ill
informed.
