LTM 622 PREPROFESSIONAL FIELD EXPERIENCES

Evaluation by Cooperating Teacher

Directions: Please note candidates strengths or areas in which s/he can improve in each category below.
When possible, please provide specific examples or comments to support your view.
1. Conducts self in a professional manner (e.g., attendance, preparation, respect) (conceptualization,
communication, integrative interaction; WTS 9, 10)
Ms. Roxas has consistently conducted herself in a professional manner. Attendance/tardiness has never
been an issue. Ms. Roxas communicates well with students, parents, coworkers and continues to work to
gain understanding of the work environment such that her communication continues to improve. Her
knowledge of content and Science concepts has helped to provide students with experiences that better
help them understand their surroundings and that will help prepare them for high school and beyond.
Ms. Roxas continues to work to improve her presentation and delivery of scientific information/thinking
to the middle school age group, such that they can more easily build conceptual understanding of
scientific thinking and relationships.
2.

Encourages development of a positive self-image in learners (e.g., gets to know students,

Positive interactions with students) (communication, integrative interaction; WTS 5, 6)

Ms. Roxas has work heard to understand the needs of students (and families) in order to build
positive relationships with her students. She has worked to be consistent in demanding high expectations
while working to understand student needs and creating a learning environment that is conducive for
learning for each student. Maintaining a classroom environment such that students can explore and
engage in collaborative learning has proved challenging, however, progress has been made during the
school year toward this end. Ms. Roxas is currently working on consistency with maintaining a solid
classroom structure while allowing students to work as thought partners and team learners.
3. Interacts effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, parents (integrative interaction,
communication; WTS 6, 10)
Ms. Roxas participates in all required staff development sessions, working interactively with coworkers,
coaches, various trainers and administrators. She also works with teacher leaders, mentors and team
teachers (the middle school team) to plan and reflect on practices that affect her students and the general
culture/climate of the school. Ms. Roxas maintains open communication with parents, via phone
conversations, emails and parent teacher meetings. All constituents have commented on Ms. Rojass
sincerity and follow through with actions that have been agreed upon that will help students to experience
greater success.
4.

Demonstrates effective paraprofessional teaching skills (e.g., planning, implementing

lesson) (conceptualization, coordination; WTS 2, 5, 6, 7)
Ms. Roxas has demonstrated a solid understanding of content knowledge but has struggled with planning
and implementation of lessons. Her presentation has often had an effect of intimidating students. She has
been working on delivering lessons in a way that uses student prior knowledge to gradually build student

knowledge; providing enough practice in a variety of settings in order to build solid background knowledge
that students can continue to build upon. Progress has been made throughout the school year and I expect
that with more experience, Ms. Roxas will continue to improve in this area.
5.

Communicates effectively through speaking, writing, and listening modes (e.g., gives clear
directions, listens to students, uses media) (communication, integrative interaction; WTS 6)
Ms. Roxas has communicated clearly and successfully using a variety of mediums.
Final Comments/Suggestions for Candidate:
In efforts to help students become more confident in their ability to succeed in Science, work on ways to
help them to value and appreciate their own thinking and life experiences so that they can began to
make genuine connections to the concept of science and scientific thinking.
