Background

Ninety-six years ago, in the year 1918, a provincial doctor

(Dr. Vinluan) established an expanded clinic in Bayombong
Hospital 1925.
In 1972, it was renamed Major Ferdinand E. Marcos Hospital
and grew from 50 to 100. In 1978, the hospital became Major
Ferdinand E. Marcos Veterans Regional Hospital with a 200-bed
capacity.
In 1986, it was downgraded to Nueva Vizcaya Provincial
Hospital and was devolved to the local government in 1993.
However, through the efforts of the late Rep. Leonard Perez, it
was restored back to the national on April 1, 1995, and now
renamed VETERANS REGIONAL HOSPITAL with official bed capacity of
200, a level III, teaching and training hospital.
Because of the significant increase in morbidity and
mortality of trauma cases in the area, it was designated by DOH
as a TRAUMA CENTER in 2005.
In 2008, it was accredited by DOH as CEmONC Facility, along
with Fabella Medical Center and QMMC. To date, VRH has trained
almost 50% of targeted CHD2 BEmONC Facilities.
In 2010, it was also accredited by the Phil. Institute of
Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) as a center for
service and training for TAHC modalities.
All government/ devolved hospitals and RHUs of Nueva Vizcaya
and the provinces of Region II (Quirino and Isabela) and nearby
provinces such as Ifugao and Benguet in Region CAR, and Nueva
Ecija in Region III refer their patients to VRH for emergency and
tertiary care.
In 2011, 4, 786 patients were referred to VRH, 159 patients
to lower level facilities and 37 patients to higher level
hospitals and medical centers. On the other hand, 45-50% of the
patients are IPs and 70-80% are class D & E.
