: Reframing Classroom Rules

Discuss classroom rules with your MST. Identify any other rules which need to be
made explicit. Frame all rules using positive language. Identify how these rules
are being reinforced during the school day and note opportunities to teach these
rules
Construct your own means of recording this. E.g. Table 3 below.
Table 3: Example Reframing Classroom Reframing Rules Record Sheet

Classroom rules

Reframe using
positive language

1. Dont shout in the

classroom.

Speak quaitly in the

classroom.

2. Dont answer if
you are not
raising your
hand.

Put your hand up to

answer.

3. don't push your

friends inside and
out the
classroom.

Take turn Be kind and

share.

Opportuinities to teach these

rules
(both observed and ideas of your own)
In the circle time, the teacher will
remind the students about the
rules before starting the lesson
by doing the movements and
saying at the same time. For
example: Speak quietly, and the
teacher has to lower her voice
and put her hand on her mouth
so they will know that they must
not shout.
The teacher can reward the
student who raised his hand to
answer so they will know if they
raised their hands, they will get a
reward.
Hanging a poster about this
rules and before any activity
inside and out the class, the
teacher should remind them
about this rule by telling them
that the student who does not
share and always pushing his
friends will stay in the class and
he will not play outside. So they
will try to avoid the punishment.

Discuss visual means of representing these rules with your MST to be developed
and introduced to the children over the next three weeks for example.
