Question: In a 100 words or more, summarize the Alice Dreger presentation?

What did you

learn? How did it better your knowledge of the queer identity?

The overall view of the Alice Dreger presentation is about how people who are born as
intersex were treated in the medical system, and whether or not aligning intersex people to be
officially recognised by the LGBTQ, thus adding an I. the order of topics of the presentation
goes first over defining terms such as identity is different than biology. Second she Covered the
history of Intersex treatment in the medical field throughout history as negative, and how people
try to force one's gender to conform to either male or female due to flawed theories and practices
in the medical field. Third she went over the current science and understanding of Intersex and
how politics makes it difficult to convince medical physicians to change their treatment methods
for intersex people. Finally she gave pros and cons of intersex being a term included to LGBTQ.
One example from the pro con list is that politically it would help people Intersex people with a
supportive community, but this would also entail that their would be another label placed on
people adding to the political drama. What I learned was mostly from the historic parts of the
presentation, I knew though that human experiments predating the 1980s were in humaine by
today's standards, but always finding out about them makes me feel sick. I dentity is a messy
topic, one that I rather not get into depth but, from what i have learned from this presentation is
that identity is contributed by two factors, how one person identifies themselves and how others
identify the person as. It seem that most individuals are at the mercy of how other people see
them as or how they should be re-made in order to fit their description of normalcy.
