Most Common Questions asked by Hindus

Dawah Training Program

1. Idol Worship

Q: Is Idol Worship the correct form of worshipping the creator?

1. The example of the Cockroach

We ask the person who worships idols a question, If someone was to make a
statue of a cockroach and was to write your name (or my name) Mr XYZ below it
(as if it is your statue), will you like that?
The answer would obviously be, No!
We ask, Why?
Maybe, the would be, The cockroach is a dirty pest which runs around in gutters,
when people see it they try to kill it. It is a insult that you have made a statue of
a cockroach for me.
That is the point. It is a insult for man that a statue of a cockroach is made for
him.
Making an idol of God is much much more bigger insult! What is the difference
between a cockroach and a human being? But infinitely more is the difference
between the idol that is made of God and God Almighty.

2. Whom are we talking about? How Great God is!

Our huge city is just a small dot on the earth, when we seek from space. But the
huge earth is just a small planet in front of the sun. The gigantic sun is just a
small star in front of the millions of stars and the much bigger stars in our galaxy
The Milky Way. Our enormous galaxy The Milky Way is just a small galaxy in
front of the millions of galaxies in the Cluster of Galaxies. There are millions of
Clusters of Galaxies in this Universe. God is the Creator or this vast Universe.
Can you imagine the difference between God Almighty, the Creator of this
Universe and the best, largest idol made by man? What a grave insult is an idol to
God Almighty!

3. Look at the signs of God.

Can we not look at the Creations of God the sun, the moon, the stars, the way
they move without colliding, the earth, the oceans, the sky, the atmosphere, the

rivers, the rain, the animals which live on earth, the birds, the fishes, our own
bodies... When we look at all of these Creation we find there are many signs for
man to ponder about. The Creation bears the signature of the Creator. Dont
these things remind us of the Creator? Dont these things remind us about God?

4. Weakness of the idol

Allah says in the Quran in Surah As-Saffat 37:95
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Aaraf 7: 194-195

Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon
them and let them answer you if you are truthful. Have they feet wherewith they
walk? Or have they hands wherewith they hold? Or have they eyes wherewith
they see? Or have they ears wherewith they hear?
Consider these points:
a. Does the idol have hands to catch, eyes to see, legs to walk?
b. If a thief was to steal from the idol its jewellery or offerings then can it stop
him?
c. If there is a fire and everyone runs away to save its life, can the idol also
run away to save itself?
d. After the idol is worshiped can it go and immerse itself in the water?
e. If the immersion was not complete and the idol comes back to the shore
due to the waves can it put itself back inside?
f. Can it stop itself from falling or breaking or damaging itself?
g. Can it bring itself from the shop of the idol seller and install itself at the
location where it is worshipped?
h. Can it create itself, Can it create others or does it have to be created.
There can be 100s of other such questions.

5. Pranpratishtha
When people are told about the weakness of the idol, the common answer
offered by some idol-worshippers is that idol is in reality just an image and not
Islamic Information Center

Most Common Questions asked by Hindus

God in reality.
However, when the beliefs of current idol worshippers are considered, we find
that an idol is not held sacred when it is in the workshop of the idol-maker. While
the idol is in the workshop it is roughly handled, stocked and stored. However it
becomes sacred after the first Pooja ceremony which is called, Pranpratishtha, in
which the soul of God is called into the idol. After this ceremony the idol
becomes sacred. This is the reason why when people have finished worshipping
he idols in the sacred days of worship, all the idols are disposed off by immersing
them in water.
A study of this ceremony indicates that the idol is supposed to have the soul of
God in it. But then why is it unable to do all the things mentioned in Point 4
above.

2. Idol required initially, not later

Q: Initially for concentration, an idol is required for worshipping God. However

later when the mind reaches higher consciousness, the idol is not required for
concentration.

1. Muslims have reached the higher level of consciousness

Muslims have reached the higher level of consciousness. If an idol is required for
concentration only in the initial stages and not later on when the mind reaches
higher consciousness then we would like to say the Muslims have already reached
the state of higher consciousness because when we worship Allah (swt) we do
not require any idol or statue.

2. Will the fundamentals change

A very important fact to be noted is that only if the fundamentals of any particular
subject is strong, then only will he be able to excel in future for e.g. A teacher of
mathematics in standard one teaches the students that 2 + 2 = 4 irrespective
whether the student passes school or does graduation or does a Ph. D. in
mathematics, the basics of 2 + 2 = 4 will yet remain the same, it will not change
to 5 or 6. In higher standards the student, besides addition may learn about
Algebra, Trigonometry, Logarithm, etc. but the fundamental of addition will yet
remain the same.

3. With wrong fundamentals will a person every reach the higher level
If the teacher in standard one itself teaches the fundamentals wrong, how can

you expect the student to excel in future?

If a person does idol worship, he will never reach the higher level, because the
fundamental that he is following is wrong.

4. An idol is an insult of God, how can we insult God this way

3. Different names of the same God

Q: Water is called by different names in different languages: in English as water,

in Hindi as paani, in Tamil as tanni. Similarly if God is called either Allah, Ram or
Jesus, is it not one and the same?
or
Q: All religions are good. They teach that we should worship god. They are
different ways of reaching that same god. So whichever religion a person follows
it is fine.

1. It should really be water, not something else.

It should really be water, it should not be something else. For example one
person maybe talking about water, another about liquor, a third one about about
poison. They are not the same.

2. The gods whom people worship, are they the same?

o One religion says that there is only one God, another says there are
three gods, another says there are 33 Crore gods. How can all be
correct?
o One religion says that we can make idols of God, another says it is a
grave insult of God to make His idols. How can both be correct?
Someone has to be wrong.
o One religion says that God is perfect, another shows God having
imperfections. How can both be correct?
o One religion says that There is None Like God so God will never take
human form. Other religion says that God takes human form. How
can both be correct?

3. What is the real problem?

It is all the same, everyone is correct! then either it is because,

- we dont know maths or
- maybe we are being, politically diplomatic.
Similarly in this question, there is a major mistake it maybe because a person,
1. The person does not know, The correct concept of God
2. The person does not know, The concept of God followed by these
religions. or
3. Because a person is being Politically diplomatic

4. Correct Concept of God.

Come, let us check the concept of God in these 3 aspects
1. Do they believe that there is only One God who is the Creator, Owner,
Sustainer, controls good and bad, controls life and death, health and
sickens, sustenance, children. He is One, without any partners, helpers,
wives, children or idols.
2. Do we believe that there is NONE like unto Him. Nor should we say
anything about Him from our own desires.
3. Do we believe that God alone should we worshipped? No act of worship
should be dedicated for anyone other than Him alone.

5. Politically diplomacy?
However some people believe in being diplomatic and trying to please everyone.
Do consider this:
1. Do we not owe it to God that when we speak about Him, we do not speak
anything but the truth?
2. Do we say something false about God just to please people?
3. Arent we human beings rather mature enough to be able to talk and
discuss our differences in a healthy manner and try to understand what is
the correct position.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah An Nisa 4:171
Say not about Allah anything except the truth

4. God taking Avtaar

Most Common Questions asked by Hindus

Dawah Training Program

Q: All the many gods worshipped in Hinduism are in reality one God who took
different forms and came. Hence Hinduism also believes in One God. Hence in
reality they were all different Avtaars of that same God.

1. Meaning of Avtaar
There is no concept of Messengers of God in Hinduism.
In Hinduism, Avatar , Avtaar is the Sanskrit term where Av means down
and tr means pass-over. Thus Avtar means to descend down or to come down.
The meaning of Avtaar in the Oxford Dictionary is, (In Hindu Mythology) the
descent of a diety of a released soul to earth in bodily form. In simple words,
Avtaar means God Almighty coming down to earth in bodily form.

2. Why should God become a Human?

Many people have an understanding that God would become a human
being due to one of the three reasons mentioned below:

A. To understand the difficulties and problems faced by man

Does GOD KNOW all our needs?
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Al-Mulk 67: 14
Would He not know Who has created (them)? He is the Knower of finest
mysteries, and aware of everything.

Consider the example: Even a manufacturer who makes a small tape-recorder knows his
machine. He knows the parts that he has put in his machine and hence writes an instruction
manual which gives the dos and donts for the machine. Surely God has incomparably perfect
knowledge about His creation. When we acknowledge that He is Perfect, He also has perfect
knowledge!

B. To teach men by example.

To guide mankind, God chooses a man from amongst men and guides him to teach mankind
what is right and wrong. Such men are called Prophets and Messengers of God.

Allah says in the Quran in Surah Faatir 35: 24

"There never were a people without a warner having lived among them (in the
past)."

God rather sends messengers for this purpose. The last messenger sent for mankind is Prophet
Muhammad . He came with this pure, unadulterated message about God being One, without

any partners.
It does not suit the divinity of God to become a human being. ..But glory to God, the Lord of
the Throne: (high is He) above what they attribute to Him! (Qur'an 21:22). We Human-Beings
need a Human Being as an example. Since if the example would not be a human being, people
would surely say, He was not a human like us. A human-being guided by God is the best prac
tical example for other human-beings to follow.

C. To destroy evil
It is mentioned in the most popular and widely read book of Hinduism. Bhagavad
Geeta, Chapter 4, Verse 7 8
Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendent of
Bharata, and a predominant rise of ir-religiosity at that time, I descend Myself .
To deliver the Pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish
the principles of religion, I myself appear, millenium after millennium.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Ghaafir 40: 68
It is He Who gives Life and Death; and when He decides upon an affair, He says
to it, "Be", and it is.

God is Perfect. He does not have to take human form, go through human sufferings to destroy
evil. To destroy evil God merely has to command, Happen and it is done! To show, how to
fight against evil in a human manner, he will send a Human Being guided by Him as mentioned
above.

3. Perfect and Imperfect at the same time?

God is perfect. Man is Imperfect. If God becomes man, then will He be perfect
and imperfect at the same time. Think about these differences and ponder:
- God is free of all needs. Man is the one in need.
- God does not need food. Man needs food.
- God does not need sleep. Man needs sleep.

4. How can a man be God?

Man a small creature, living on a small planet (earth), in a small solar system, the
sun being one of the many stars in our galaxy the Milky way, it being one of the
galaxies out of the countless galaxies in the whole universe.
But man needs food, water, clothing, shelter, people. Man is one himself in need,
how can he be the one who is solving everyones need. Man is the one who is in
need of food, how can he be the one who gives food. There are countless other
such questions.

Most Common Questions asked by Hindus

Dawah Training Program

Do we believe in a God who has Himself countless needs or rather that we

believe in a God who is free of all needs?

5. Flaws in the Avtaars.

It is found that all the claimed Avtaars of God had deficiencies, mistakes,
shortcomings. When God is perfect even the Avtaar should have been perfect.
Why is it that the Avtaars had shortcomings and mistakes in them?

6. Different identities, personalities, different Gods

The personalities of all the Avtaar is different. They have different identities.
People worship them also as separate gods. When each of them is a god, then we
have many gods and we have far away from the concept of One God. How much
ever we try to make them all one in our minds they are clearly distinct and
separate personalities. So if a person believes in 10 Avtaars of Vishnu, then he
clearly believes in 10 gods then he has moved far from the concept of One God.

7. Maybe messengers considered to be gods.

God sent guides and Messengers to show people the right way. Mankind has a
tendancy to exaggerate, venerate and over praise. It is possible that mankind in
its fallacy started to consider righteous people who showed people the way to be
gods. Maybe the Avtaars were Messengers and Prophets to show people the way
towards the One true God.

5. Many Gods for doing many things

Q: Just as we have division of work in human society where different people do
different things, similarly there are different gods who do different things.

1. Man is imperfect. God is Perfect.

Yes, we do have division of work in human society where different people do
different things. This is because man is perfect. Man is in need. God is perfect
and free of all needs
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Faatir 35: 15

wants, worthy of all praise.

2. Cannot compare perfect God with imperfect man.

Allah says in the Quran in Surah Ash-Shuraa 42: 11
There is nothing like Him.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah An Nahl 16:74
So put not forward similitudes to Allah. Indeed, Allah knows and you do not
know.

3. This means - One god is not able to do what the other does.
Different gods for different things means, God is himself not able to do
everything. If there is one god of wealth then it is as if we are saying that he
cannot provide knowledge, protect, create.
When, there is something that one god cannot do then this is an imperfection.
Would we rather that we worship the One who is Capable to do all things.
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Hajj 22:78
No just estimate have they made of Allah: for Allah is He Who is Strong and able
to carry out His Will.

4. Have to try to please so many gods for different things.

For each need, man has to try to please a different god. If one is pleased and he
could not do something to please the second one then he will be left without the
blessing in the control of the second one. How much more better will it be for the
worshipper if he had to please only one God instead of this.
It is mentioned in the Quran in Surah az Zumar 39:29,

Allh puts forth a similitude: a (slave) man belonging to many

partners disputing with one another, and a (slave) man belonging

entirely to one master.

Are those two equal in comparison? All the praises and thanks be to
Allh ! But most of them know not.
Think of this example. If a person had many bosses over him and he
has to strive to please all the bosses. Is his plight better of the one who
has just one boss and he has to strive to please that one boss.

6. Everything is God
Q: Everything is God Har kankar mein shankar. There is a little bit of god in
everyone. Hence man can become one with the Creator with meditation and
worship and can become God himself.

1. Everything also includes dirty things

If everything is god. Then consider this:
- Even dirty things like toilets, excreta, gutters and other such things are they
also god?
- Dirty creatures like rats, cockroaches, dogs are also god
- We walk on the ground then the ground is also god. then are we walking
on god?
This is all a grave insult of God almighty.

2. God in everyone?
When God is in everyone then:
- Is he also in sinners, evildoers, oppressors, tyrants?
- Then is God doing these crimes against humanity himself?
- Then whom should we punish for any crime, because the one who does
these crimes is God, himself.

3. Many gods?
The belief that god is in everything implies that there are an uncountable number
of gods!
However there is plenty of evidence all around us that there is only One God.

4. God is separate and high above His Creation

Hence God is separate and High above His Creation.

Allah says in the Quran in Surah Al-Anaam 6:18
And He is the subjugator above His servants. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted
[with all].
Allah says in the Quran in Surah Ta-Ha 20:5
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.

5. Worship the Creator, not His Creation.

Allah says in the Quran in Surah Fussilat 41: 37

And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon.
Prostrate neither to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created
them, if you (really) worship Him.
Many people say everything is God. The tree is god, the sun is god, the moon is
god, the snake is god, the monkeys are god.
Islam says that everything belongs to God. It is Gods. This difference of - s is
what many people do not understand.

6. All Creation worships the Creator

Allah says in the Quran in Surah An-Nahl 16: 49-50

And to Allah prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth
of creatures, and the angels [as well], and they are not arrogant.

Indeed, God Almighty is aware about everything. He has power over everything.
He knows everything about whatever happens anywhere in the earth, beneath

reach the One Supreme God. Dont you need to go to a lawyer to reach a judge.

8. Is it correct human beings have to go through he cycle

of birth and rebirth i.e Reincarnation?

9. Hinduism : Oldest and best

Q: Hinduism is the oldest of all the religions and thus the, most pure, authentic
and best of all the religions of the world.

1. Islam is the oldest religion

Hinduism is not the oldest of all the religions. It is Islam which is the first and the
oldest of all religions. People have a misconception that Islam is 1400 years old
and that Prophet Muhammad is the founder of this religion. Islam existed since
time immemorial, ever since man first set foot on this earth. Prophet Muhammad
was not the founder of Islam. He was the last and final Messenger of Almighty
God.

2. The oldest religion need not be the purest and the most authentic
religion
A religion cannot be claimed to be most pure and authentic, only on the criterion
that it is the oldest. It is similar to a person saying that the water he has kept in
an open glass, in his house, outside the refrigerator, for three months is purer
than the water which has just been collected in a clean glass, immediately after it
has been purified.
Islamic Information Center

3. The latest religion need not be the purest and the most authentic
religion
On the other hand a religion cannot be claimed to be the purest or authentic, only
on the criterion that the religion is new or the latest. A bottle of distilled water
which is sealed, packed and kept in the refrigerator for three months is much
purer than a bottle of water freshly collected from the sea.

4. For religion to be pure and authentic, it should not have

interpolations, changes and revisions in its scriptures revealed from
God
For any religion to be pure and authentic, its scriptures should not contain any
interpolation, addition, deletion or revision. Moreover the religions source of
inspiration and direction should be Almighty God. The Quran is the only religious
scripture on the face of the earth which has been maintained it its original form.
All the other religious scriptures, of all the other religions have interpolations,
additions, deletions or revisions. The Quran has been in the memory of a
multitude of people, intact in its original form ever since its revelation, and now
there are hundreds of thousands of people who have preserved it in their
memory. Moreover, if you compare the copies made by Caliph Uthman from the
original Quran which is yet present in the museum in Tashkent and in Koptaki
museum in Turkey, they are the same as the ones we possess today.
Allah (swt) promises in the Quran, in Surah Al Hijr, chapter 15 verse 9
"We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it
(from corruption)."

5. The oldest religion need not be best religion

A religion cannot be claimed to be the best religion only on the criterion that it is
the oldest. It is similar to a person saying, that my 19th century car is better than
a Toyota car manufactured in 1998, because it is older. He would be considered
to be a fool to say that his 19th century car which required a rod to be turned in
circles to start it, is better than a key-start 1998 Toyota car, just because it is
older.

6. The latest religion need not be the best religion

On the other hand a religion cannot be called as the best religion only on the
criterion that the religion is new or that it came later. It is similar to a person who

says that my 800 cc Suzuki car manufactured in 1999 is better than a 5000 cc
Mercedes 500 SEL manufactured in 1997. To judge which car is better, a person
should compare the specifications of the car e.g. the power of the car, safety
measures, the capacity of the cylinders, the pickup, the speed, the comfort, etc.
5000 cc Mercedes, 500 SEL car manufactured in 1997, is far superior and better
than a 800 cc Suzuki (Maruti Suzuki 800) manufactured in 1999.

7. A religion is best, if it has the solutions to the problems of mankind

For a religion to be considered the best, it should have the solution to all the
problems of mankind. It should be the religion of truth, and should be applicable
to all ages. Islam is the only religion which has the solution to all the problems of
mankind. e.g. the problem of alcoholism, surplus women, rape and molestation,
robbery, racism, casteism, etc.
Islam is the religion of truth, and its laws and solutions are applicable to all the
ages. The Quran is the only religious book on the face of the earth, which has
maintained its purity and authenticity proving itself to be the word of God in all
the ages. i.e. previously, when it was the age of miracles, literature and poetry
and in present times when it is the age of science and technology. Moreover,
Islam is not a man-made religion, but a religion revealed and inspired by Almighty
God. It is the only religion acceptable in His Sight.

10. Why do Muslims bury dead bodies instead of

cremating them, i.e. burning them?
Question:
Why do Muslims bury dead bodies instead of cremating them, i.e. burning them?
Answer:

1. Components of human body present in the soil

Elements that are present in the human body are present in lesser or greater
quantity in the soil. Hence it is more scientific to bury a dead body, as it easily
gets decomposed and mixed in the soil.

2. No Pollution
Islamic Information Center

Page - 17 -

Most Common Questions asked by Hindus

Dawah Training Program

Cremating (burning) the dead body leads to pollution of the atmosphere which is
detrimental to health and harmful for the environment. There is no such pollution
caused by burying a dead body.

3. Surrounding land becomes fertile

To cremate a dead body several trees have to be chopped, which reduces the
greenery and harms the environment and the ecology. When dead bodies are
buried, besides the trees being saved, the surrounding land becomes fertile and it
improves the environment.

4. Economical
It is expensive to cremate a dead body when tons of wood have to be burned.
Annually there is a loss of crores of rupees, only because dead bodies are
cremated in India. Burying dead bodies is very cheap. It hardly costs any money.

5. Same land can be utilised for burying another body

The wood used for cremating a dead body cannot be reutilised for cremating
another dead body since it gets converted to ashes. The land used for burying a
dead body can be reutilised for burying another body after a few years since the
human body gets decomposed and mixed in the soil.

Regarding the question of which prophet of God was sent to India, and can we
consider Ram or Krishna to be prophets of God, there is no text in the Quran or
Sahih Hadith mentioning the name of the prophet that was sent to India. Since
the names of Ram and Krishna are nowhere to be found in the Quran and Sahih
Hadith, one cannot say for sure whether they were prophets of God or not. Some
Muslims, especially certain Muslim politicians who try to appease the Hindus, say
Ram Alai-his-salaam, i.e. Ram, may peace be on him. This is totally wrong, since
there is no authentic proof from the Quran and Sahih Hadith that he was a
prophet of God. However, a person may say that perhaps they may have been
