Lesson Plan #13

Lab Number 6
Veterinarian
Date:
Wednesday, June 1st, 2016
Supervisor:
Hallie
Lead Teacher: Hallie, Melissa, Marisa
Children and Learning/Development Goals:
1. LIly
2. Macy
3. Nelson
4. Hyrum
5. Hannah
6. Jackson

Preassessment and Findings:

At many of the home visits we found out that the children love animals. Many of the children
said that their favorite animal was a dog. In the pet shop for dramatic play many of the
children wanted to play with the dogs. Marisa asked, Do you know how to take care of an
animal? and how do you take care of your cat (or dog) to Lily, Bridget, Hannah, Olivia,
Lexie, and Owen. Bridget said, you feed them. Hannah shrugged her shoulders but then
combed the cat Marisa was holding. Marisa asked Owen what his frog ate and he said,
bones. Lily, Olivia and Lexie responded by combing the animals and pretend feeding them.
Olivia was feeding her dog and having her dog play with a rope toy and chew a bone. Lanie
asked Jane what she was doing and she said, I am brushing my kitty. She then invited
Lanie to brush the kitty too.
From these observations, most of the children know that you need to feed animals but
because they do not know more about how to take care of animals (or did not tell us, did not
have the right questions asked, or did not have the vocabulary) we will focus on teaching
them how to take care of animals. We invited a veterinarian to come to the classroom and
he is bringing his dog to do an examination. From this, the animal the children will be able to
receive the most knowledge on animal care is a dog.
Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. Veterinarians give animals physical exams to check if they are healthy or sick.
2. When animals are sick, veterinarians give them medicine so they can get better.
3. Veterinarians can teach us the best way to take care of our animals.
Preschool Concepts or Skills:
1. Concept/skill one
2. Concept/skill two
3. Concept/skill three
