The paralist Package

The LYX Team

The paralist package introduces a number of new types of lists. Perhaps
the most widely used are inline lists, which have several features: 1. They are
set inline within a paragraph; 2. But an inline enumeration is still numbered
automatically, as a normal enumeration would be; 3. And yet, the individual
items can still be referenced.

For example, the second item in that list was

numbered 2. You can also do inline itemize lists and inline descriptions. These
are created using the InParagraphItem, InParagraphEnum, and InPara-

graphDescr styles.
Another new style of list is the paragraph list. Items in these lists are set as
ordinary paragraphs.

This is the rst item. See how it is set as an ordinary paragraph, without

any special indentation.

This is the second item. It is also set as an ordinary paragraph, and there

is no special indentation with it, either. But you do still have a bullet.

This is the third item.

Those items were set with the AsParagraphItem style. Of course, it does not
make sense to reference them. But you can do the same thing with enumerations
and descriptions.
There are also compact versions of the three standard list styles.

Two

This is the rst description item.

This is the second description item.

This one was set with the CompactDescr style. It is just an ordinary description
list that has no extra spacing.
The paralist package also provides an optional argument for list items that
allows you to control how the labels are formatted. For information on this, and
many other features of the package, please see its documentation on CTAN. You
might also want to read the warnings about nesting the new list types. It can
be done, but it does not always work as you might expect.
