Chemical Hazard and Precautionary

statements in LYX
Uwe Sthr

1 Introduction
To be able to insert chemical hazard and precautionary statements in LYX, you need to
load the module Risk and Safety Statements in the menu Document . Settings . Modules.
The module provides 2 insets which are accessible via the menu Insert . Custom Insets.

2 Statements
The inset H-P number is used to typeset the number, the inset H-P statement will output
the corresponding statement.
The hazard statement H200 has the statement: Unstable explosives.
This is H200: Unstable explosives.
As you can see, the statement inset can be left empty. In this case the previously used
number is used for the statement.
Precautionary statements are inserted the same way as hazard statements:
The precautionary statement P235 is: Keep cool.

3 Statement Alternatives
Some statements allow you to choose between certain alternatives. In these cases you
must add a dot and the number of the alternative to the statement number. Some
examples:
P210.1 leads to: P210: Keep away from heat. No smoking.
P210.2 leads to: P210: Keep away from sparks. No smoking.
The alternative number 0 refers to the original version as stated in the regulations:

P210.0 leads to: P210: Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces. No
smoking.

4 Required Text
Some statements require text. This is inserted to the optional argument of LyXs H-PStatement inset. The argument is inserted with the menu Insert . Statement Text.
In this example the text sunglasses was added to the optional argument:
Statement P280 says: Wear sunglasses.
Some statements print text referring to the place on a label. For example:
Statement P321 says: Specific treatment (see the left side on this label).
Where the left side is the input required text.
If you dont have a label use nolabel as number for the alternative to omit the text
about the label:
Statement P321 says: Specific treatment (see the left side).

5 Language issues
The statements are output depending on the language. Currently only the languages
Danish, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish
are supported.
At this webpage you find the official statements for all 23 languages of the EU.
Mixing languages is possible without problems:
Dies ist H-Satz H251: Selbsterhitzungsfhig; kann in Brand geraten.
This is hazard statement H251: Self-heating: may catch fire.
