LESSON PLAN: War, what is it good for?


Profile
Lesson plan No1: Introducing war
Subject: The importance of war and the native American songs
Grade: 11
Number of students: 23
Duration: 2h
Instructional settings: Small groups
General description: This session is an introduction about war in human history which describes the
general issues of importance and consequences in human civilization. It also studies the native American
poetry.
Objectives
- The student will forge a critic point of view about consequences of war.
- The student will practice reading comprehension by identifying the general lecture of a text.
-The student will practice listening identifying complete sentences on videos.
Materials and equipment
- Computers (Audiovisual lab)
- Copies of adapted material
Procedure
Warming up: Introducing the war (10 minutes)
1.

The teacher will tell an introduction about war and its consequences (Speech include questions from
the students):

La Guerra es la esencia de este mundo controlado por nuestra civilizacin la cual se ha visto mejorada por el
belicismo creado para impulsar la matanza, de alguna manera nosotros somos hijos de la guerra y nunca
hemos sido sus dueos y a la vez es nuestro legado. Muchas civilizaciones se han formado gracias a la
guerra, la mayora de la tecnologa que tenemos hoy incluyendo los viajes espaciales se deben a la
implementacin de tecnologas usadas para la guerra. Muchas naciones hoy en da le deben su poder y
dominio geopoltico a la guerra como es el caso de China, Estados Unidos, Rusia, Francia y Gran Bretaa.
Los intereses geopolticos son factores importantes en una guerra, antiguamente la toma de tierras para
incrementar el poder econmico de un pueblo o individuo era comn, de ah se empiezan a formar las
poblaciones llamadas imperios, desde la expansin de Alejandro Magno y los Mongoles, pasando por el
dominio Romano hasta las conquistas Europeas en Asia, frica y Amrica. Ciertamente la historia de la
humanidad est ligada a la guerra. Haciendo nfasis en el desarrollo de la civilizacin bajo tres aspectos
importantes: Salud, tecnologa y economa podemos deducir que la guerra ha sido y es un factor que

contribuye de manera sustancial a la humanidad, incluso demogrficamente reduce la poblacin mundial
contribuyendo a una mejor administracin de los recursos del planeta. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior por
qu hay gente que se opone a la guerra? Por qu la guerra es considerada un problema? Cules son las
consecuencias de una guerra?
The students have to form groups of 4 at the laboratory each group has to be the same all sessions long.
(five groups in total).
Pre-task: In the laboratory
Activity 1: Checking vocabulary and listening (45 minutes)

The teacher will bring the poems and the workshop sheet (see appendix one and two) to the groups
in order to read them.
After that the teacher plays the documentary Apocalypse: the Second World War. Link related:

The groups have to identify the main ideas given in the documentary.
The students have to resolve the reading workshop individually meanwhile the documentary is
playing.

There will be assistance from the teacher per group in order to check grammar and concepts.
Task: In the laboratory

Students have to create four poems based on the Second World War per groups following the
structure of the Native American songs of war explained by the teacher the last session..
Each group has to read the poems and then voluntarily students have to make an interpretation of
them.
The teacher picks up poems sheets.
