3. The frame shown in fig has a 50 mm by 50mm square cross section. The
load P is located 100 mm from the centre of curvature of the curved beam
portion of the frame. The radius of curvature of the inner surface of the
curved beam is a=30 mm for P=9.50KN, determine the values for the
maximum tensile and compressive stresses in the frame.

4. The curved beam as shown in fig is subjected to load P=120KN. The


dimensions of section BC are also shown. Determine the circumferential
stress at B and radial stress at the junction of the flange and web at
section BC.
