Regulations for Master by

Coursework Mode

Work load

For full time students, minimum 12 credits or 3 courses


up to a maximum of 20 credits or 5 courses per
semester.

For part time students, not more than 12 credits or 3


courses per semester.

Program or course requirements

Students must comply to the course requirements in


order to qualify for the final examination (if relevant)

Add, drop and withdrawal of courses


Adding and dropping courses shall be made during
the first 4 weeks of every semester.
For dropping of courses after week 4 until week 10,
it has to be approved by the Dean; incurs a fee.
The adding and dropping of courses must comply
with the minimum and maximum credit specified
for each semester.
Candidates who registered for courses but did not
attend classes and did not apply to drop courses,
will be given grade E.

Credit transfer
For credit transfer, the equivalent course must not be
taken more than 5 years from the date of registration in
UKM
Maximum credit that can be transferred is 12 credits or
3 courses with at least a grade B or equivalent.
It is subject to a processing fee.
Application for credit transfer must be made in writing
to the Dean/Director of Graduate Studies during the
first semester.
Grades for the transferred credit will be used for the
calculation of grade average.

Dissertation
Must comply to the format of UKM; refer to Buku
Panduan Penulisan Tesis/Disertasi Gaya UKM.
Must not submit dissertation that has been submitted
to the university or other universities.
For publication of manuscripts from the conducted
research, approval must be obtained from the
supervisor or supervisory committee.
Dissertation must be written in Bahasa Melayu (for local
and Indonesian students)

Examination Grades
Candidate must achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 in
every semester and at least a grade C in any of the
courses.
Candidates are allowed to repeat courses with a grade
of B- and below. The last grade obtained will be used in
the calculation for overall grade.

Exam deferment
Health reasons; medical certificate must endorsed by a
medical doctor from UKM hospital or any Government
hospital.
Request for exam deferment shall be made not more than 48
hours after the scheduled exam.
Request for deferment shall be made in writing to the Dean.
Deferment due to other reasons shall be considered on a
case by case basis by the Faculty.

Repeating courses or programme or Sitting for


special exam
Students who fail a compulsory course must repeat the
course.
Students in the final semester who have to complete
their credits for the purpose of graduation, are allowed
to sit for the special examination.
Special exams are only allowed for one course that a
candidate has enrolled.
Request for special exam shall be made in writing to the
Dean within two weeks after registration of the final
semester.

Appeal on examination results


Must be made in writing to the Dean, within 4 weeks
from the date of the official exam results.
Incurs a processing fee.
A panel of at least 3 independent academicians will be
formed to review the exam script.
