Cracker Free Diwali 2016

Have you ever thought the results behind kindling a single cracker!
If no, this note is for your kind of people, must READ.

Air Pollution
Heavy smog hangs low in the air on Diwali night and the following few days. While we ignore
the smell - and some even claim to like it - we can't ignore the fact that we are inhaling poison.
The levels of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, copper, manganese, zinc, sodium,
magnesium and potassium sulphur nitrates, nitrogen dioxide increase considerably, which are
highly injurious to our health.

Soil Pollution
Diwali also sees a great amount of non-biodegradable dry waste in the form of papers, plastics
and firework covers corrupt the soil composition at large level resulting into degraded soil
quality - broadly causing soil pollution.

Water Pollution
The chemical particles also contaminate the water bodies. They penetrate the soil and even
result in the contamination of the ground water making it unfit for consumption. Additionally,
the surface water bodies are more prone to get contaminated due to the factors such as
transportation through flowing water, illegal dumping of wastes and other sources.

Noise Pollution
'Bombs' are favourites amongst kids and youths and with preference such as - the noisier the
better. This leads to noise pollution, and a prolonged exposure to such high levels of noise can
lead to permanent damage of the eardrums.

Garbage
The amount of garbage released on the day after Diwali is phenomenal. Approximately 4,000
additional metric tons of garbage are released in Delhi alone, and twice that amount in
Mumbai. And this garbage, far from being eco-friendly, is extremely hazardous for the
environment as it comprises of chemicals like phosphorous, sulphur and potassium chlorate,
and tonnes of burnt paper.

MAJOR LOSS- HEALTH

Wake up and beware!
The air pollution on Diwali certainly harms our respiratory systems and cause Asthma making
Diwali with crackers, potentially fatal!
Smoke resulting from crackers hamper the Hemoglobin content in the blood causing it to
malfunction in the process of transporting oxygen in the blood.
Noise pollution could result into hearing loss, high blood pressure, heart attack and sleep
disorder, especially among aged populations.

Chemicals on hands indirectly result in stomach resulting into disorders.

The firecrackers are normally handmade and the people making them are exposed to harmful
chemicals which result in irreversible health damage. Most of the factories employ young
children, making it even more appalling.
Numerous fire accidents occur every year. Rough estimates claim that nearly 10,000 people get
injured by the crackers. Most of the injuries are minor, but cause an inexpressible amount of
pain. Most of the victims are children in the age group of 8-16.
Last but not the least, the effect of crackers on birds and animals is cataclysmic. Animals like
dogs and cats have a more sensitive sense of hearing than humans.

Now imagine, the results of all those crackers which you have been kindling from
all those years, since your childhood
I believe, those who are reading this note are literate and understand the
sincerity and necessity of cracker free Diwali.
