CHURCH
Ld aePRAYER FOR AMERICA
As | write this article, | am touched by a visit to the hospital earlier
this morning with one of our men who courageously served as a
Marine in combat in Korea and Vietnam. He shared with me how
he was captured by the enemy and urged to sign a document
renouncing the United States. As a result of his refusal, he was
repeatedly tortured and given the chance again and again to
deny his nation. He continued to refuse.
We must also reaffirm our loyalty to our country, of course after
our allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ. We may serve our country
as soldiers, but also as prayer warriors. Like Samuel we must not
“sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray” (1 Samuel 12:23).
Since early voting began this week for the general election, the
nation is on tiptoe in expectancy and also anxiety. | preached last
weekend about "The Stewardship of Citizenship.” We “seek the
welfare (shalom)" of the place where God has “sent” us by not
only working hard, building for the future, exercising our rights
in voting, but also by seeking the Lord and calling on Him in
prayer for this welfare. He has promised to answer us, even
though we may not fully understand how.
The entire church is invited to a special Prayer Meeting this
Sunday in the Chapel at 5:00 pm; a time to call upon the Lord in
unity together for America. | cannotstress enough how important
it is that God's people fast and pray, reflecting the spirit of the
great song: “Stand beside her and guide her through the night
with the light from above."
Petition for God's will to be done with each candidate and issue.
Praise Him that He is the Sovereign Lord of all nations, believing
that He can do anything with anybody. Ask Him to open the eyes
of those who believe lies that they may see the truth behind the
facades and the danger in certain decisions. Pray that God's
people will stand up and speak up that we may put down evil
designs. Pray that Christians will exercise their citizenship
privilege to vote and that no ungodly interference, hindrance or
fraud will take place in the counting of votes. We know that "He
can do great and hidden things that we have not known"
(Jeremiah 33:3). God bless America.
