Drama in the Classroom
As a French immersion grade 7 teacher, I see the value of drama
education. The best way to learn a language is to feel comfortable
speaking it, so I always ensure my classroom makes the students
feel comfortable, their voices are always heard, and they have lots of
opportunities to speak French. Drama helps them see the world in a
new way by being able to see a situation from another perspective,
understand another person, and develop their interpersonal,
intrapersonal, and emotional intelligence.

History
Mush Hole Project was a site-specific theatre performance about a residential school that shut down in Brantford
in 1970: students met with residential school survivors and their children to learn about the experience from them
- Learning about history through role in weeks leading up to Mush Hole Project field trip
Right now students are working on creating and presenting a title page in role to show what is important about
their time period chosen S
- What must it have been like for a person or group of persons who lived during that time, in that place, in
those conditions, under those circumstances? (Making the Space for Drama)
These examples from this past month give you a context for how I use drama with history to promote students to
find intrinsic motivation and be able to see things in a new way. It also gets them using French a lot more to
express their opinions and ideas.
