I am Ilma Syifannisa, student of Medical Faculty in Swadaya Gunung Jati University.

With this letter I would like to express my huge interest to participate at your student exchange
program in this year. As a medical student I would like to explore the world of medicine, and to
achieve that I have to gain an international experience outside my university.
I could participate on this program because I have some experience that could support my self to
be participated. I had been taking English course program so I have a good skill on speaking
English that is important on this program. In senior high school I have written an English
scientific paper, so I have an experience on doing papers in English. Beside that, I used to
participate on some medical student organization and I have done some sharing with other
medical student that has participated on student exchange program.
I would like to explain why I want to take a part in this exchange program. During my
studies in Indonesia, I have seen that so many health problems in Indonesia occur. The problems
are so complex, such as low level of healthy life style, bad sanitation, so many infectious
diseases, and many others. Indonesia still has a bad regulation on public health service.
According to my experience when I did my task in one of primary health service in Cirebon,
there are still a lot of problems. The people in there still having bad quality of health. The
sanitation and hygiene level still bad and also the settlement is so crowded. Beside that, the
people didnt have awareness of their health, they dont check up their health when they got ill,
and they dont know how to keep their life healthy. I still dont get it, where is the source of the
problems. Because according to the general practitioner who works for that primary health
service they have done so many efforts to improve the health quality in there. They have done
the counseling to improve the peoples knowledge about health, giving chance to have free
health check up, and many others programs. So Firstly, my main target is getting an adequate
knowledge in public health and primary health service, By studying abroad, I can learn how the
system of public health service in there. Because as I know, France has a good quality of public
health service. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) found that France provided the
close to best overall health care in the world. By studying there, I can share the problems that
Indonesia has and ask the solution. Also, I can learn the system that they have and apply the
system in Indonesia. So, Indonesia can have a public health service that as good as France.

Secondly, I could share my experience as a medical student with another medical student
from different country. So I could improve my knowledge because there must be a difference
between Indonesia and France. As I know University of Poitiers has better facilities in their
medical faculty than our country has, and they have done so much research about medicine. I
could get new experience by learning in their facility. In there, I could know the newest research
they have about new medicine. As we know, we live in modern era where everything develop so
fast and to have a better life quality we have to adjust our self with the development. France, has
an International observatory of health research system named French Health and Medical
Research System. This system incorporates with the central government and many faculty of
medicine and pharmacy in France, so the research is going well. The system is focused on some
issue such as infectious disease, cancer, and mental health. This issue also becomes the main
issue in our country, so by studying abroad in the country that has so many good researches, I
could get so many new latest update in world of medicine and I could share my knowledge when
I return to my country. Because as we know, Indonesia is left behind the developed country
especially in health sector. This is a chance for me to help my country to be a better place with
good health level.
By studying in a different facility, I could train my skill on some clinical examination and
learning different technic on examining patient. I think that medicine is not a static science so
there must be a difference between Indonesian and French medical doctor on examining and
managing their patient. If I could learn from both side, I could integrate different technic to have
a better way on managing a patient. Besides that, the drug that French doctor used will be
different from Indonesia. So I could know the drug that is marketed in there and I could compare
it with the drugs that Indonesia has. Im sure that France has latest research on new drugs. As we
know that nowadays foreign medical doctors could come to Indonesia and examining local
patient as well as Indonesian medical doctors, this is a big challenge for every medical doctor in
Indonesia to improve their knowledge and skill. So by studying in different countries I could
compete with the foreign doctors who come to Indonesia and Indonesian people will choose
local medical doctors rather than foreign medical doctors.
And also I think that studying abroad is not only about gaining some new information
and knowledge, but we could discover something new. One of my desires is meeting different
people from different countries, different nationalities, and different cultures. France is one of

country in the world that has so many historical places and authentic cultural site. I am attracted
to discover the history and culture that France has. Such as Eiffel Tower the iconic tower of
French, Arch de Triomphe the biggest historical gate, Place da la Concorde the central park in
Paris, and Louvre Museum that is used to be French kingdom. The diversity will broaden my
horizons and make me feel as a member of the global community. All of these would be a big
experience in my life, and as we all know that experience is the best teacher.
In the conclusion, I would say that this student exchange program would help me to
fulfill my potential in so many aspect, and also improve my knowledge and my skill about
medicine that will help me to achieve a goal to upgrading the health care system in Indonesia.
