PREVIOUS
GENERATIONS OF
WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY
1st GENERATION
Analog voice-only cellular telephone standard.
1G networks use analog signals.
Voice itself during a call is only modulated to higher frequency(150
MHz)
2nd GENERATION
Commercially launched on the GSM standard in Finland (1991).
2G network allows for much greater penetration intensity.
Provide the services such as text messages, picture messages and
MMS.
3rd GENERATION
Make use of TDMA and CDMA
The spectral efficiency of 3G technology is better than 2G
technologies
4th GENERATION
WHAT IS 5G?
5G is a packet switched wireless system
with wide area coverage and high
throughput(rate of successful message
delivery over a communication channel.)
5G wireless uses OFDM and millimeter
wireless that enables data rate of 1Gbps
and frequency band of 2-8 GHz.
5G is going to be a packet based network.
OBJECTIVES
5G being developed to accommodate QoS rate
optionally up to 40MHz.
the world.
5G WIRELESS STANDARDS
WIBRO WORKING
IPv6 SUPPORT
IPv6 increases the IP addresses size from 32bit to 128
devices.
BENEFITS
High speed, high capacity, and low cost per bit.
Support interactive multimedia, voice, streaming
BENEFITS
1 Gbps speed simultaneously to many workers on
compared to 4G
Coverage improved
Signalling efficiency enhanced
Latency (Delay in data Transmission) reduced
significantly
RESEARCH AND
DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
2013
12th May: South Korean technology giant
SAMSUNG claimed it has made
breakthroughs in the development of next
generation networking technology, and was
able to transmit data @ 1Gbps speed through
28GHz band
6th November: Huawei announced plans to
invest a minimum of $600 million into R&D
for generation of 5G networks which are 100
times faster than the Modern LTE networks
2014
May : Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo
announced plans to conduct experimental
trials of Emerging 5G technologies together
with six vendors: Alcatel-Lucent Ericsson,
Fujitsu, NEC, Nokia and Samsung
February: Broadcom introduces First 5G Wi-Fi
2x2 MIMO combo chip for Smart phones.
Doubles Smartphone Wireless performance
while improving power efficiency.
2014
2nd JULY: In alive, over-the-air demonstration of
pre-standard equipment, the Swedish company
Ericsson achieved 5Gbps throughout in the
15GHz frequency band using MIMO technology
at its lab in Kista, Sweden.
8th JULY: South Korean telecom company SK
Telecom joins with Ericsson for the
development of 5G technology
CONCLUSION
Migration to 5G networks ensures convergence of
