1.3
Checking of attendance
2. Review of the past lesson
Local Area Network is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as
a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building, using network media.
Using this Network we can use peripheral connected to one computer such as Printer to print files or
documents from other computer
B. Presentation:
1. Motivation
Show pictures of Computer games that uses LAN Connection, ask the student if they want to know
how it works. Use Picture Equation to reveal the topic for the day.
2. Raised Up Question
Ask 3 students on what they want to know or to learn about the topic that will be answered after the
discussion.
3. Technical Terms
Hub - used as the central object on which computers and other devices are connected.
Crimping - joining two pieces of metal (usually a wire and a metal plate) by deforming one
or both of them to hold the other.
Cable - comprises two or more wires running side by side and bonded, twisted, or braided
together to form a single assembly, the ends of which can be connected to two devices.
Pin piece of metal used to fasten two things together.
4. Lesson Proper (Discussion Method using powerpoint presentation.)
4.1 LAN Cabling process of creating cable used to create a network that interconnects computers.

4.2 T568B Straight-Through Connection is used to connect computer to a network hub such as a
router.

4.3 Materials and Tools Used in LAN Cabling
3.1 Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) Cable - most common cable used in computer networking.
Number of twisted-pair wires are often grouped together and enclosed in a protective sheath to form a
cable.
3.2 RJ45 Connector - registered jack 45 is an eight-wire connector used to connect computers to
category 5 unshielded twisted pair cables in a network.
3.3 Wire Stripper Used to remove the outer jacket of the wire.
3.4 Crimping Tool used to crimp UTP Cable to RJ45 Connector.
3.5 LAN Tester - assists in the installation and control of networks.
4.4 Safety Precaution:
Avoid Horse Playing
Use the proper tool
Always be on task
Be Vigilant
4.5 Steps in LAN Cabling
5.1. Prepare all the materials needed.
5.2. Carefully remove the outer jacket of the cable.
5.3. Untwist the pairs and arrange the wires based on T568B wiring.
5.4. Trim the untwisted wires to a suitable length.
5.5. Keep the wires flat and in-order as you push them into the RJ-45.
5.6. Place the wired plug into the crimping tool.
5.7. Repeat all the steps with the other end of the cable.
5.8. Test the cable using the LAN Tester.
5. Application
Direction: Students will create a T568B or Straight-Through LAN Cable by following the steps in
Crimping a LAN Cable for 15 minutes.
6. Generalization
LAN Cabling is the process of creating a LAN Cable which is used in interconnecting computers.
There are two types of LAN Cable The Cross Over and Straight Through. Straight Through is used to
connect many computers with the use of HUB. There are several tools and materials used in LAN Cabling
like UTP Cable, Wire Stripper, Crimping tool and the LAN tester.
7. Evaluation (Cognitive 20%)
Refer to the Evaluation Sheet.
IV. Agreement
A. Follow-Up Assignment:
What is Cross-over LAN Cable?
What is the color coding of Cross-over LAN Cable?
B. Advanced Assignment:
1. What are the Structured Cabling Systems?
2. Identify and describe the elements that are recommended for structured
cabling networks.
