How chemical change take place

1. The following aspects of chemical changes:
a. How fast a reaction take place
b. How much reactants are needed and how much
products are formed in a reaction
c. How much energy is involved in a reaction
2. How energy is harnessed
PERFORMANCE STANDARD : make either a poster, a flyer, or a brochure on a product (such
as fuels, household, or personal care products) indicating its
uses, properties, mode of action, and precautions
LEARNING COMPETENCY :
Determine the limiting reactant in a reaction an calculate the
amount of product formed
TIME ALLOTMENT : 2 Hours
I.

Objectives
At the end of the two hour session, at least 75% of the students should be able to
obtain at least 75% of the following:
1. Determine the limiting reactant in a reaction
2. Calculate the amount of product formed
3. Recognize the importance of limiting reactant in a reaction

II.

Subject Matter :
Limiting reactant

Learning Activities
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Energizer, Advertisement on sandwich spread Enrique Gil
B. Review
1. A problem on the calculation of percent yield of a reaction will be presented on the
board. Students will be encouraged to solve by pair (Think pair share) and a
volunteer pair will be asked to discuss their work to the class.
C. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation :

Picture Analysis/Video presentation on limiting reactants

2. Presentation : Students will be asked to analyze the picture/video. Inquiry

based approach will be used to elicit the concept of limiting
reactants. It will play the role as springboard of the
introduction of the subject matter, Limiting Reactants. Then,
objectives of the lesson will be presented to the students.
Students will be asked to read each objective and will be
clarified of the lessons end.
3. Discussion :
The teacher will discuss an overview of the concepts of
limiting reactants like What is a limiting reactant and nonlimiting reactant?. A sample problem will be then presented
to introduce the mathematical and analytical concepts of
limiting reactants.
4. Developmental Activities :
a. Activity : Problem Solving Item will be provided for the students in their
worksheets. They will answer each problem collaboratively in
a group.
b.Analysis : After calculating each problem, students will then answer each
guide question to facilitate their understanding of the concept.
c. Abstraction : This time, students within their group will brainstorm so that
they will come up with a consolidated output.
d.Application : Each group will present their group work output to the class.
5. Synthesis/ Generalization : After all the group presentations, the teacher will
conceptualize students outputs and highlight the
concept that limiting reactant is the reactant in the
chemical reaction that limits the amount of

product that can be formed. Hence, emphasize the

essence of this concept through a thorough
understanding of the chemical reactions
determination of the limiting reactant, nonlimiting reactant and the amount of product
formed in a chemical reaction.
IV.

Evaluation
Directions: Read the problem thoroughly. Analyze the chemical reaction by determining
the limiting reactant and how much excess reactant remains after the rection has stopped.
1) A 2.00 g sample of ammonia is mixed with 4.00 g of oxygen. Which is the limiting
reactant and how much excess reactant remains after the reaction has stopped?

V.

Remedial/Enrichment
A) 9. 90.0 g of FeCl3 reacts with 52.0 g of H2S. What is the limiting reactant? What
is the mass of HCl produced? What mass of excess reactant remains after the
reaction?
NOTE: The limiting reactant is the reactant that limits the amount of product that
can be formed and is completely consumed during the reaction. The excess
reactant is the reactant that is left over once the reaction has stopped due
to the limiting reactant.
B) Assignment
In a chemical reaction, why is it that a reactant is considered as limiting reactant?
