1. Landscape Gardeners
Salary
$16 per hour
$9.5 per extra hour
Job Responsibilities
Landscape gardeners will be responsible for the following:
discuss and develop designs with clients
read and interpret plans and discuss design concepts with landscape architects
do basic planning and design work, and planting plans
calculate construction costs such as labor and materials
select seeds, bulbs and plants and plant these
construct decking, fencing, walls and courtyards, and lay down paving
install garden lighting, irrigation and ornaments
Skills and knowledge
Landscape gardeners need to have:
knowledge of different plants and their required growing conditions
the ability to interpret and follow plans and drawings
knowledge of construction methods and materials
knowledge of design regulations, permits and plans
knowledge of tiling and bricklaying
2. Farm Managers
Salary
$18.5 per hour
$10 per extra hour
Farm managers will be responsible for the following:
manage stock breeding programmes
attend stock sales and buy and sell stock
provide food, care and shelter for animals
muster and shift stock
hire and supervise workers such as shepherds and shearing gangs
buy feed, machinery and other farming materials
check that farming, machinery and systems are working properly and make minor repairs
check and treat animals for diseases and parasites

Farm managers need to have:
knowledge of animals, including how to breed, care for, handle and feed animals

knowledge of stock and pasture management (efficient use of paddocks and grasslands)
practical skills such as the ability to build fencing, operate tractors and other farm machinery,

3. Veterinary Nurses
Salary
$22.5 per hour
$14 per extra hour
Veterinary nurses are responsible for the following:
clean the cages and surgery areas, and carry out general cleaning duties at a veterinary clinic
carry out administrative and receptionist duties at a clinic and give advice to clients over the
phone
feed and exercise animals
perform diagnostic tests and keep records
perform duties on behalf of veterinarians, such as taking and developing x-rays, collecting blood
samples, and testing animals for pregnancy
clean, sterilize and prepare surgical instruments and other equipment used during operations
assist during surgical operations including monitoring the anaesthetic
accompany and assist veterinarians on call-outs to locations such as houses and farms
Veterinary nurses need to have:
animal-handling skills
knowledge of basic science, including the anatomy and physiology of animals

4. Farm Workers
Salary

Farm workers are responsible for the following:
shift or herd stock between paddocks
drench and dip animals, and administer medicines to keep them healthy
operate farm machines, such as tractors, to cultivate, fertilise, spray and harvest grain and other
crops
provide animals with food and water
attend to animals while they are sick or giving birth
collect, sort and pack animal products such as eggs or wool
clean, maintain and repair buildings, yards and fences
operate and maintain farm machinery such as tractors and wool-pressing machines
Farm workers need to have:
knowledge of different farming methods
good knowledge of the animals they are dealing with, including life and breeding cycles
knowledge of how to use and care for farm equipment and machinery
practical skills for tasks such as fencing
driving skills to get around the farm on motorbikes, tractors or farm utility vehicles
5. Stock and Station Agent
Salary
$18 per hour
$9 per extra hour
Stock and station agents are responsible for the following:
advise farmers about market trends, stock prices and farm management
arrange the sale and purchase of agricultural equipment and goods
buy and sell livestock/grains on farms and at auctions on behalf of clients
arrange transport for animals/grain to farms, auction yards or processing plants
act as an auctioneer at sales
keep records of the sale of livestock/grains
Stock and station agents need to have:
knowledge of stock breeds, stock classes, and stock health
knowledge of crop varieties
knowledge of farm equipment and products
animal-handling skills
knowledge of market values and trends, and how climatic conditions affect stock and crop prices
sales, negotiation and auctioneering skills

6. Welders
Salary
$24 per hour

Welders are responsible for the following:
study plans and drawings
cut and bend and fit steel or metal parts
make jigs (of wood or metal) that hold parts in place for welding
weld parts together
repair and maintain equipment and machinery
construct metal objects according to instructions
Welders need to have:
knowledge of metals and their properties
welding skills, including an understanding of different welding processes and equipment
ability to interpret technical drawings
knowledge of health and safety regulations
7. Heavy Truck Drivers
Salary
$22 per hour
$15 per extra hour
Heavy truck drivers are responsible for the following:
carry out routine checks on their trucks every time they drive them
weigh their truck before and after it is loaded
supervise or help with the loading of their truck
check the condition of the load and that it is securely fastened
follow the correct safety procedures if goods being transported are dangerous
check all the documentation related to loads they are carrying
drive a truck to make deliveries or pick up goods
keep a log book of the hours they work
Heavy truck drivers need to have:
excellent driving skills
basic knowledge of the mechanics of their truck and how to maintain it

knowledge of different methods of securing and covering loads such as how to use chains, locks
and straps
an understanding of the Road Code, defensive driving techniques and relevant transport laws
knowledge of emergency procedures and how to identify and handle hazardous road conditions
