WATCH CARE TIPS

With proper care, your Roots Time watch will

provide years of functional service. We urge
you to read the following care tips to enhance
the enjoyment of your watch.

After use in salt water, or contact with

sand or mud, rinse in fresh water.

If the watch has a rotating ratcheted

bezel: after use in salt water or in sand
or mud, rinse in fresh water, rotating the
bezel several times while the watch is
immersed in fresh water.

If your watch is equipped with a genuine

leather band, do not immerse the band
in water. Treat regularly with a leather
care product.

Battery life is generally two to three

years. Your battery should be replaced
approximately every two years by the
Roots Time Service Center or by a
reliable watch service center.
Please note that after battery replacement,
or whenever the case is opened, the gasket
must be replaced, the crown and crystal
checked, and the case must be resealed
under pressure and tested, to ensure
continued water resistance.

WATER RESISTANCE

The water resistance of each watch type

varies due to its construction. Please refer
to the case back for exact markings, which
are explained below.

WATER RESISTANT: Water

resistant to minimal contact
with water.

WATER RESISTANT 30M (or

3ATM): As above, plus casual
contact with water, such as
hand washing, bathing, rain.

WATER RESISTANT 50M (or

5ATM): As above, plus water
resistant for swimming,
boating, or water skiing.

WATER RESISTANT 100M (or

10ATM): As above, plus
water resistant for snorkeling
or skin diving.

Do not use while scuba diving.

Do not pull out or adjust any crowns

while the watch is submerged or is wet.
The crown(s) must be pushed in to
ensure water resistance.

After use in salt water, clean the watch

with fresh water.

To ensure water resistance, do not push

any buttons under water or when watch
is wet.

WATER RESISTANCE

Have the watch checked every two years

to ensure long-term water resistance.

Occasionally the inner surface of the

crystal may be temporarily blurred if the
atmospheric temperature is lower than
that inside the watch. This does not
adversely affect the watch. If the blurring
persists, please have your watch
checked by a watch service center or
jeweler.

METAL BRACELET ADJUSTMENT

If your watch is equipped with a metal

band, it may need adjusting to fit your
wrist. If removal of links is necessary for
proper fit, this should be done by a
watch service center or jeweler, as
professional tools are required.

For a minor adjustment of the clasp only,

do the following:
1)Using a paper clip or pin, push in
the spring pin as shown in Figure 1.
Be careful not to let the spring pin pop
out and separate from the bracelet.
2)Position bracelet in desired location
as shown in Figure 2.
3)Compress the spring pin and secure
the bracelet in new position as shown
in Figure 3. Be sure the pin locks into
holes in clasp.

REPLACING YOUR BAND OR BRACELET

Although with proper care your genuine
leather watch band is designed to last years,
with use and age, bands may need to be
replaced.

A complete line of replacement leather

bands and metal bracelets is available
to restore or update the look of your
watch.

Your nearest Roots Time dealer may

stock replacement bands, or can order
one for you.

If you cannot locate a retailer, contact

the Roots Time Service Center at
1-800-COSMODA, Extension 300.

You will need the model number found

on the case back in order to order the
same or similar band or bracelet. (The
model number begins with an "R".)

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

ROTATING RATCHETED
TIMING BEZEL
If your Roots watch is equipped with a
rotating bezel, this bezel functions as a
one-hour timer. To use, rotate the bezel
counter-clockwise until the zero mark (a
dot, a V, or 60) on the bezel lines up with
the minute hand. As the minute hand
moves, you will be able to track the
elapsed time of your activity.
Do not rotate the bezel clockwise.
SCREW DOWN CROWN
Some watches are equipped with a
screw down crown.
To set the analog time, the crown must
be unscrewed counter-clockwise or
towards you before the time can be set.
After setting, push in the crown and rescrew into the case clockwise or away
from you.
Note that water resistance cannot be
ensured unless the crown has been rescrewed.

11

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

TACHYMETER
A tachymeter measures the speed at
which the wearer has traveled over a
measured distance, i.e. a measured
mile/kilometer on the highway. For
example, start the chronograph when you
pass the starting point and stop it when
you pass the finish. You can then read
your speed in units per hour off the
tachymeter scale.

ANALOG / DIGITAL WATCHES

Each analog / digital watch has unique
features and operating instructions. Refer to
the specific instructions for your watch as
indicated by the model number, which is
found on the case back of your watch and
begins with R.
To ensure water resistance, do not push any
buttons under water or when watch is wet.
For all analog / digital watches, if the digital
part of the watch does not appear to function
properly, it can (in most cases) be reset by
pressing all four buttons simultaneously. If it
does not reset, please send it in for servicing.
