LTM 621 PREPROFESSIONAL FIELD EXPERIENCES

Evaluation by Cooperating Teacher: Theresa Buhrandt

Directions: Please note candidates strengths or areas in which s/he can improve in each category
below. When possible, please provide specific examples or comments to support your view.
1.

Conducts self in a professional manner (e.g., attendance, preparation, respect)

Emily was always prompt and prepared. She conducted herself in a professional manner at
all times and was always very respectful to everyone in the classroom.

2.

Encourages development of a positive self-image in learners e.g., gets to know students,

positive interactions with students)
Emily spent a lot of time getting to know the students. She interacted with them often. She
did a getting to know you writing activity. The students really liked her and every Thursday
usually asked when she was coming.

3.

Interacts effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, parents

As above, Emily interacted very well with students and me. I did not have the opportunity
to see her interact with parents or administrators, but I am sure it would have been
professional and appropriate.

4.

Demonstrates effective preprofessional teaching skills (e.g., planning, implementing

lesson)
Emilys lessons were always well prepared. She would send to me for review prior to
teaching the lesson. The students enjoyed her lessons and she did a great job. Her focus
was on reading and the lessons related to creating mental images, inferring and synthesizing.
She also did a lesson on character traits as well as figuring out unknown words in text.

5.

Communicates effectively through speaking, writing, and listening modes (e.g., gives clear
directions, listens to students, uses media)
Emily communicated effectively with the students. The activities she prepared for her lessons
had clear directions and were easy to understand. She used student feedback to adjust her
lessons. She carefully listened to the students and responded appropriately.

6.

Uses appropriate content area learning strategies to teach vocabulary, facilitate comprehension
of text (written, auditory, visual), and creation of text (media, written, spoken, visual).
Emilys lessons focused on reading and she used appropriate learning strategies. She taught in
large group and small group format. She had the students moving around for the lessons and
she used scaffolding to support and gradually release the students toward independent work.

Final Comments/Suggestions for Candidate:

It was a pleasure having Emily in our classroom. The students connected with her and really
enjoyed learning with her. Her lessons were excellent and very carefully thought out so they
would meet the students needs. She incorporated our read aloud into her lessons which the
students really enjoyed. She is a hard worker, relates well with students and is very prepared.
She will make an excellent classroom teacher!
