Reduce the
size of the
playing area.
Use role models to highlight
good examples of players
landing on both feet together,
balancing and then passing.
Encourage players to also
leap and land on one foot
then
quickly ground the other
foot. This helps with balance.
Eye contact between the
passer and receiver
is essential for good timing.

Spikezone
The Australian Volleyball Federations national participation
program for primary school children (8 to 13 year olds)
isSpikezone and is delivered at various locations
throughoutthe country. This program offers the opportunity
for participants to engage in regular games against other
teams, typically on a weekly basis for a period of about
10weeks.
For more information about the Spikezone program,
visittheweb site at www.spikezone.com.au or send
an email tospikezone@avf.org.au.
Volleyball in schools
While the sport is still becoming established at the primary
school level, it has a definite presence at high school level.
Teams participate in weekly leagues and most states/
territories have an annual State Schools Cup event.
Thepinnacle at this level is the Australian Volleyball
SchoolsCup, an annual event held each December with
more than 3,500 students from every state and territory
andregular teams from high schools overseas. This event
isthe largest of its kind for any sport in Australia.
