Modbus/TCP Communications Board.

Installation:
The Modbus/TCP Device server is designed to plug in to any slot on the MT3000 series
integrators. The Microtech commutations setup is default to factory standard. Go to
Main menu 5 and select Comm A, use down arrow to scroll through setup parameters.
Assure that all comm. boards are addressed at address 1, this is necessary to allow the
communications between the network device server and the Microtech.

The Modbus/TCP server will plug in to any slot on the Microtech 2000 series integrators
but the end plate is tight and may need to be nibbled out. Set up is same as MT3000
series.

first three bytes of the Ethernet address are fixed and read 00-20-4A, identifying the unit
as a Lantronix product. The fourth, fifth, & sixth bytes are unique numbers assigned to
each unit.

Modbus/TCP Device Server Setup

This appendix covers the required steps to get any one of the Device Servers
on-line and working. There are two basic methods used to log into the
Device Server and setup the IP address:
Network Port Login - Make a Telnet connection to the network port
(9999)
Serial Port Login Connect a terminal or a PC running a terminal
emulation program to the Device Servers first serial port (CH 1).
It is important to consider the following points before logging into and
configuring the Device Server:
The Device Servers IP address must be configured before a network
connect is available.
Only one person at a time may be logged into the network port. This
eliminates the possibility of several people simultaneously attempting to
configure the Device Server.
Network port logins can be disabled. The system manager will not be
able to access the unit. This port can also be password protected.
Only one terminal at a time can be connected to the serial port (In RS485 mode, the Device Server is capable of multidrop connections.)

Address and Port Number

The Ethernet address is also referred to as the hardware address or the MAC

Every device connected to an IP network must have a unique IP address.

This address is used to reference the specific unit.
A destination IP address and a port number define every TCP connection and
every UDP datagram. For example, a Telnet application commonly uses port
number 23. A port number is similar to an extension on a PBX system.
The units serial channel (port) can be associated with a specific TCP/UDP
port number. Port number 9999 is reserved for access to the units Setup
(Configuration) Mode window.
Setting the units IP address to 0.0.1.0 can disable AutoIP. This setting
enables DHCP but disables AutoIP.

DeviceInstaller
You can manually assign the IP address using DeviceInstaller software. This
software can be downloaded from the Lantronix web site at:

http://www.lantronix.com/support/utils/dst/index.html
Once at the web site select Download the latest version of
DeviceInstaller. At the next screen, select Download Device Installer
v2.0 via FTP.

Follow the download instructions and install the software on a personal

computer. Attach the personal computer to the network connected to the
Microtech Modbus/TCP Ethernet board. Please contact the Lantronix help
line for problems with the installation and operation of the DeviceInstaller
software.
Use the following procedure to assign an IP address and Network class.
1. Choose Start \Programs\Device Installer\Device Installer

In the Enter the Hardware or Ethernet Address field, enter the

Ethernet address (MAC address), which is listed on the label on the
bottom of the unit.
In the Enter IP Address to assign field, enter the units IP address in
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX format.
In the PC Network Class section, select the class (subnet mask).

)Hint: Most users select Class C.

Click Set IP Address
Confirm the Successful message displays and click OK
Click Back and return to the DeviceInstaller main window

Test the IP Address

Use the follow steps to test the IP address setup:

Confirm the Reply received messages display in the window indicating the IP address has
been entered successfully.
Note: If you do not receive Reply received messages, make sure the unit is
properly attached to the network and that the IP address assigned is valid for
the particular network segment you are working with. If you are not sure,
check with your systems administrator.
Click Back to return to the DeviceInstaller main window.

Add the Unit to the Manage List

After the network has been pinged and all things are working properly, use
the following steps to add the unit to the list of similar Lantronix devices on
the network.
3. At the DeviceInstaller main screen, click Search the network for

Select the PC Network Class (C is the default).

Click Start Search. A list of all active units displays.
Click Save. A confirmation message displays.
Click OK.
Click Back to return to the DeviceInstaller main window. The DeviceInstaller screen now
lists all of the devices in the group including the unit you are setting up. The hardware address
and firmware release number for the unit displays.
This procedure gives you the ability to manage (configure) the unit to
work with the serial device on the network.

LED Function
Lights solid green to indicate channel 1 is idle. Blinks to
indicate Channel 1 is connected to the network and active.
Lights solid yellow to indicate channel 1 is idle. Blinks to
indicate Channel 1 is connected to the network and active.
Blinks or lights solid red in combination with the green
channel 1 LED to indicate diagnostics and error detection.
