SEAWEED Eucheuma Cottonii DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES in THE DISTRICT of

This study aims to analyze the development strategy of seaweed Eucheuma cottonii in
Takalar. This research was conducted in April to July 2016 in the District of North Galesong
Takalar. Data collection methods used are secondary data collection, observation and interview
techniques, using SWOT analysis as data analysis.
The result showed the strategy Strengths-Opportunities (SO) is to optimize the entire
territory of the existing marine seaweed aquaculture, upgrading seaweed production through
post-harvest processing so as to increase the selling price of seaweed farmer level, improve the
quality of the cultivation and post-harvest. Strategy Strengths-Threats (ST) by increasing
cooperation with universities and other research institutions to cope with ice-ice disease as well
as the techniques of good farming according to season (summer and winter), enhance
cooperation with the government, both provincial and local governments to undertake a pilot
nursery, Strategy Weaknesses-Opportunities (WO) is to conduct a pilot nursery by the
government, improve training for seaweed farming so that they has a good ability and technique
of cultivating in the dry season and the rainy season as well as the techniques of handling ice-ice
disease, training post-harvest processing, the strengthening of venture capital to the seaweed
farmers by establish a cooperative, increased cooperation with government and private credit
institutions that coincided with improved quality of farmers who have ethics into customers who
pay on time. While strategy of Weaknesses Threats (WT) is to improve the support of all
stakeholders seaweed in Takalar in particular and the province of South Sulawesi in general,
raise awareness and insight to seaweed farmers to be proactive in the development of seaweed
business
independently
and
professionally.
