INT. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT

Black.
The pounding of a heart can be heard softly in the
background. The heart keeps pumping, each time louder and
louder as the time passes.
WIDE: DARK ROOM, JOHN DOE SITS IN A CHAIR, HALF OF HIS
FACE IS ILLUMINATED.
His expression is as if he was adrift in thought. His
breathing is slow, continous and strong. He shifts and
shakes, as if uneasy.
Music: Slow and creepy sequence.
JOHN DOE
True, nervous. Very, very
dreadfully nervous I had been and
am; but why will you say that I
am mad? The disease had sharpened
my senses, not destroyed, not
dulled them. Above all was the
sense of hearing acute. I heard
all things in the heaven and in
the earth. I heard many things in
hell. How, then, am I mad?
Hearken! and observe how
healthily, how calmly I can tell
you the story
INT.BEDROOM. NIGHT
Old McGregor lays on a bed. John Doe hands water and food
to him. He acts very loving as if the man was his
grandfather.
JOHN DOE
Here you go Mr. McGregor.
John Doe gives water and cookies to Mr. McGregor
OLD MCGREGOR
(In a raspy and dry voice)
Thank you very much my dear boy.

2.
JOHN DOE
No problem Sir. It is the desire
in my heart which compells me to
assist you in your daily
endeavors.
OLD MCGREGOR
I am certainly aware of this
matter my dear boy. Now, if
you'll please excuse me. I have
to rest now. Will pass me my
pill?
John Doe passes the pill to Old McGregor
JOHN DOE
Here you go Sir.
OLD MCGREGOR
Thank you again, my dear boy.
WIDE: JOHN DOE LEAVES THE ROOM AND LEAVES OLD MCGREGOR TO
SLEEP.
As John Doe leaves, he stares for a few seconds as Old
McGregor's leg stops twitching. He shakes rapidly (as if
to say no) at the sight of this twitching. He then
proceeds to leave the room.
MEDIUM: THE DOOR OF OLD MCGREGOR'S ROOM CAN BE SEEN. THE
CAMERA FOLLOWS JOHN DOE LEAVING UNTIL A CERTAIN POINT,
THEN IT STOPS FOLLOWING.
INT.OUTSIDE OF MCGREGOR'S BEDROOM. NIGHT
CLOSE UP: CLOCK READING 10:00 PM
MEDIUM: JOHN DOE CREEPING UP TO OLD MCGREGOR'S BEDROOM.
THE DOOR AND JOHN DOE ARE VISIBLE, AND THE LEG OF OLD
MCGREGOR IN THE BED, TWITCHING.
John Doe creeps up to Old McGregor's bedroom very
cautiously. He opens the door very slowly and peeks his
head in. He sees the leg of Old McGregor twitching and
John Doe shakes his head (as if to say no) at the sight
of his twitching. He then leaves the bedroom and goes to
sleep. Before he closes the door he checks if anyone is
around (looks left to right) and then he closes the door.
CLOSE UP: AN EXPRESSION OF LOATHING CAN BE SEEN AS JOHN
DOE LEAVES THE BEDROOM.

3.
MEDIUM: THE CAMERA FOLLOWS JOHN DOE UNTIL HE IS IN HIS
BEDROOM. THE CAMERA STOPS AS JOHN DOE CLOSES THE DOOR
SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY.
INT.BEDROOM. NIGHT
John Doe's bedroom. John doe is trying to sleep in his
bedroom. It is dark, only his bed and his face are
illuminated. He looks up at the ceiling feeling
disgusted.
JOHN DOE (THOUGHTS- SPEAKING FROM HIS
MIND)
Silly it is that my mind is
dulled by this very thought. He's
a loving man, I must say. I treat
him like family and he respects
like the true man he is. However,
there's something I just can't
stand about him. His twitching
leg. (John Doe shakes his head
disapprovingly and in
disgust)
JOHN DOE (CONT'D)
However mad this sounds, there is
just no way I can stand his
hideous leg. Every morning after
he wakes up I watch him eat in
silence while he twitches his
leg. When we play cards and the
occasional chess and domino game
he always makes an vexatious
sound. It truly drives me insane.
You see, this is one of those
situations where there is only
one route of redemption. Death.
It is the only way his hideous
twitching will ever stop.
Besides, what's wrong with death?
John Doe smiles and goes to sleep.
Moment of black...

4.
INT. KITCHEN.DAY
John Doe is washing the dishes while Old Mcgregor eats a
sandwich. John Doe gives an occasional look to Old
Mcgregor eating. John Doe finally makes the decision to
sit in front of Old McGregor.
WIDE: FOLLOW JOHN DOE AS HE APPROACHES OLD MCGREGOR
JOHN DOE
Are you enjoying your sandwich
sir?
OLD MCGREGOR
Very much so my dear boy. Time
has given you advanced cooking
skills, I've noticed.
JOHN DOE
Indeed it has. I'm glad you like
my food.
Old McGregor nods and they have a brief moment of
silence. John Doe walks back and washes the dishes. John
Doe then looks at the horizon. After this moment, John
Doe proceeds to speak.
JOHN DOE
Mr. McGregor, have you ever
pondered about the moment of
death?
Old McGregor stops from eating another bite of his
sandwich halfway and takes three seconds to come up with
an answer. In these three seconds he has an expression of
being shocked and scared.
CLOSE UP: OLD MCGREGOR'S SCARED FACE OF SHOCK
OLD MCGREGOR
Indeed I have. It is evident that
my expiration date is coming up,
therefore every day of my life
right now is like a single sand
particle falling from an almost
empty hourglass.

5.
JOHN DOE
Interesting.
John Doe looks up, camera follows where he is looking to.
Moment of black...
INT. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT
John Doe sits in a chair with minimal illumination. His
hands make a triangle and he is thinking.
JOHN DOE (THOUGHTS- SPEAKING FROM HIS
MIND)
Tonight is the night. Tonight I
will finally remove the leg from
this old man. No more hideous
twitching, for the rest of my
life. Tonight is the night he
will say 'goodbye, my dear boy.'
I have meticulously planned out
the following endeavor for over a
week. Every placement of the
foot, every beaming of my light,
every location of every part of
his body. The lengths, angles and
positions of every cut,
EVERYTHING. Tonight... is
definitely... the night...
John Doe smiles, stands up, and walks towards Old
McGregor's room.
Suspense music is playing in the background.
John Doe opens the door, Old McGregor is sleeping. John
Doe turns on the light, Old McGregor wakes up.
OLD MCGREGOR
What is going on my dear boy?
John Doe approaches Old McGregor with a look of
frustration.
CLOSE UP: LOOK OF FRUSTATION IN JOHN DOE'S FACE
John Doe pushes Old McGregor out of the bed, Old McGregor
shouts.

6.
JOHN DOE
Goodbye, my dear sir.
John Doe smiles and places the bed on top of Old McGregor
POV: FROM OLD MCGREGOR. JOHN DOE SMILES AND THEN HE PUTS
THE BED ON TOP OF OLD MCGREGOR.
Moment of black...
INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT
Neighbor wakes up all of a sudden. The neighbor is
scared.
NEIGHBOR
What are those sounds...? No, it
can't be.
(The neighbor picks up the
phone and dials a number)
Yes, am I speaking to detective
Osorio? Ok, I'm hearing some
shouts from my neighbor's house.
Can you come and check it out?
Ok, thanks.
(The neighbor hangs up the
phone)
INT. HOUSE. DAY
The two detectives approach the house. Detective Osorio &
Detective Chacin They are both wearing jackets.
DETECTIVE CHACIN
You know, I haven't shot anybody
in quite a while. If I see
something I'll start shooting.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
(Laughs)
I know you will.
Detective Chacin knocks the door, they wait for a little
while and then John Doe opens the door smiling.
JOHN DOE
Good morning office--

7.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
Hello sir. I came here because of
a noise complaint. The law states
that I will have to proceed and
check the premises for any
unusual situation. Please stand
back and try not to be a burden
to this operation.
JOHN DOE
Very well then.
(The officers come in)
Would you like a cup of coffee?
DETECTIVE OSORIO
No. Listen, they neighbor heard
some shouts last night. Are you
aware of these?
JOHN DOE
Indeed I am. I suppose those
shouts came from me as I had a
very bad nightmare.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
Ok, are you the owner of this
house?
JOHN DOE
No, it belongs to a man by the
name of Sir McGregor.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
Where is this Sir McGregor?
JOHN DOE
He is outside the country.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
So what are you doing here?
JOHN DOE
I am keeping this house in
optimal state. Now, you may look
in here. These is Sir. McGregor's
room.

8.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
Very well then.
John Doe guides the detectives around the house. They
look everywhere around the house and they find nothing.
DETECTIVE OSORIO
Well sir, we are sorry to
interrumpt you. Have a good day.
JOHN DOE
Why are you leaving early? I see
the look of fatigue in your
faces. C'mon, have a cup of
coffee.
DETECTIVE CHACIN
I don't see why not.
MEDIUM CLOSE UP: DETECTIVE OSORIO'S LOOK OF DISAPPROVAL.
John Doe invites them to the living room and they chat.
TEXT: 1 HOUR LATER
John Doe checks his watch. He is impatient. He wants the
officers to leave but he doesn't want to raise any
suspecions. His eyes open up and they widen, he starts
hearing a beat. It increases its sound slowly. John Doe
shakes in distress. Detective Osorio and Detective Chacin
look at John Doe in inquiry.
DETECTIVE CHACIN
Are you okay?
JOHN DOE
(Shouting)
Villains, dissemble no more! I
admit the deed! Beneath the
cement! Here, here! It is the
beating of his hideous heart!
