Answer guide for O Level Chemistry (5090/3) – Paper 3 Practical Test November 2000

Question 1 (16 marks)

(a) Titration

Accuracy (8 marks)

For the two best titres give:

4 marks for a value within 0.2 cm3 of supervisor
2 marks for a value within 0.3 cm3 of supervisor
1 mark for a value within 0.4 cm3 of supervisor

Concordance (3 marks)

3 marks if all the ticked values are within 0.2 cm3

2 marks if all the ticked values are within 0.3 cm3
1 mark if all the ticked values are within 0.4 cm3

Average (1 mark)

(b) concentration of NaOH, in mol/dm3 2 marks

Assuming a 25 cm3 pipette and a titre of 24.0 cm3
conc of NaOH = 24.0 x 0.100 (1)
25.0
= 0.0960 (1)
(correct to 0.0001)

(c) concentration of NaOH, in g/dm3 2 marks

conc of NaOH = 0.096 x 40 (1)

= 3.8 (1)
(correct to 0.1)
