 Focus on barangays with
potentials for economic
development and job creation
WHERE DO WE TRAIN?

beach houses, etc
HALLMARKS OF A BRC
TRAINING
 It is not free
 Simplified and customized to
“fit to their level” –especially for
“below-micro” and less
educated
 Practical and not-that-
theoretical: theoretical inputs
and lectures are kept at a
minimum
 Flexible: both in schedule, content
HALLMARKS OF A BRC
TRAINING

 Facilitative, participatory and

interactive
 Coupled with on-site consultancy/
business advice
 Output and results-oriented
 No training, no loan
IS IT THAT ALL
EASY?
At times, it is difficult to get number of desired
participants
 Existing business conditions
 Free time of participants
Some are interested only in getting loans
Some groups give training for free

 Slightly prolongs the loan process

Low educational level in some areas
Training cost is highly subsidized in certain areas
TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN
The Asia Foundation enabled 25 colleges
and universities to visit the BRC and its
services and help replicate the concept in 6
areas
BRC was tapped to train former MNLF
combatants under the USAID SWIFT-ELAP
programs on the area of skills and
entrepreneurial development in Central
Mindanao
 Developed simplified modules on enterprise
development and trained trainers who will
deliver them in areas of ChildFund Japan
HAVE WE BEEN EFFECTIVE?
ARE WE MAKING A DENT?
Impact of training (involving knowledge &
attitudes) may take longer time to be realized
Business success and attitudinal change cannot
be attributed solely to a single factor (for
example, Training)
 In-house evaluation results revealed that
participants “learned something” and “were
able to apply some of what they learned”
